Gold value $5.00 indian?

I have a $5.00 Gold Indian coin I think it has been cleaned and is not a rare date but is in good condition. My question is how much is the gold value in this coin? I am thinking of selling this coin here soon.

$1391 X .9675/4 = $336.44 gold value in qtr eagle. Probably sells for $400 in XF condition raw.
  • Thanks! I guess I will be posting close up photos and selling this coin here the end of next week.

So, would you say $400.00 shipping with Priority shipping and tracking included would be a fair price? . I believe some insurance is included with tracked shipping but if its not I guess insurance might be a bit higher huh? . Anyway I will have this coin listed by the end of next week if anyone is interested PM me and I will provide close and clear photos for your viewing 24 hours before I list the coin. I have done MUCH business here and have a good as gold reputation for fast shipping and delivering goods 100% as described. I take payment with a verified Pay Pal account for your protection!

Good luck in getting anything more than 5% above melt here. Even with the fees, eBay is the place to dump it.

This series has been very heavily counterfeited so I suggest that you have it authenticated before you sell it. Fake gold coins are frequently cleaned, polished, or artificially circulated to hide any diagnostics that may indicate their false origins. If you could post large clear picture, we may be able give you a preliminary evaluation of the authenticity of your coin. Agree with those that say it's essentially bullion worth a little over melt value.

Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

This coin is from my late fathers collection it is 100% real he owned the coin for 40 years . I am going to post a microscope photo of the coin showing all detail down to the metal grain. The photo will be at least as good as the Penney photo I posted this week.

US gold coins have been heavily counterfeited since the 1960's. The majority of these fakes were struck on gold planchets of the proper weight and fineness. The counterfeiters profit normally came from the numismatic premium these coins had.

Your coin is most likely real. It's just that I've seen too many fake US gold coins at coin shows and I assume all raw classic US gold coins are fake until they've been authenticated by a qualified gold expert. I'd still like to see high resolution pics of your coin if you can post them.

I will have the good photos later this week for your viewing here. I have to find the time to get into the deposit box at the bank

http://www.coinflation.com/gold_coin_values.html is a great place for values.

Your father had it for 40 years, even if it is worth $400.00 is it worth letting go?
