My graduation present finally arrived. :)

Posted my "raise" a few days ago - our son graduated from medical school - decided to spend it on this coin. It was offered to me at Central States and the transaction details were finally worked out.
I've been looking for one of these for several years and this one met the need - well struck, lots of mint luster and in a PCGS OGH (AU55).

(Baccaruda, 12/03).I find it hard to believe that he (Trump) rushed to some hotel to meet girls of loose morals, although ours are undoubtedly the best in the world. (Putin 1/17) Gone but not forgotten. IGWT, Speedy, Bear, BigE, HokieFore, John Burns, Russ, TahoeDale, Dahlonega, Astrorat, Stewart Blay, Oldhoopster, Broadstruck, Ricko, Big Moose, Cardinal.

A stunning coin and arguably the most artistic of any Territorial Gold Piece. Interestingly the first dies included a mountain behind the lion and only a few patterns were made from it in a non gold alloy. Apparently the die did not hold up and its replacement omitted the mountain and may even have been done by a different engraver. Brigham Young liked the design so much that he had a non gold specimen made from the dies for the coin you now own (sans mountain) which he carried around as a watch fob. Anyone interested in learning a little more about the unique writing surrounding the lion google "Deseret Alphabet" or simply click on the link below and go to the 6th posted photo which describes the subject coin as it is exhibited in a display of Mormon Gold It was a phonetic alphabet created by the early Utah Mormons to help their many non English speaking immigrant converts learn English and there are today still existent some preserved primary readers for children and some scriptures translated into the Deseret Alphabet. I believe on the coin the translation from the Deseret Alphabet inscriptions would read, "Holiness to the Lord."
