West Virginia Sesquicentennial Medal....Ugliest ever

DNADaveDNADave Posts: 7,309 ✭✭✭✭✭
Link on release of the medal

WV turns 150 on June 20th. I'd love to have been able to purchase one, even though it's as ugly as sin. I didn't find out they were on sale until noon today, by which time they were already sold out.
I'll be interested in seeing what they go for on the aftermarket, limited mintage of 1863 medal.

The state seal looks fine, but the dots for the outline....good grief I'm proud (sarcasm)

Edited to add: "of course, they call it a coin".

I think it will be okay once they do something with the side with all the circles.

If they did something about the side with all the circles on it, then they might have something.

As a WV native who collects WV related items, this is horrible. I'm ashamed. Just buy one of the 1863 Centennial Silver Medals.

Actually, I like it very much! The seal is beautiful. And the reverse . . . well, I'm sure it looks better in hand. By the way, all is forgiven. After you've finished with your sesquicentennial celebration, you are welcome to rejoin the Commonwealth of Virginia. ;-)

Oh boy...ha. I think we will stick with our own state.....it seems to have worked for the first 150 years, altough I wouldn't mind the beach access.

Sounds like the 9-pin dot matrix WV is the official logo of the 150th. The seal's nice, but fortunately that wasn't designed by the same committee.

    These are sold out? Seriously?

Did they only make three of them?

    Not a fan.

The link shows the coin, both sides, but there is no mention as to a 'obverse/reverse'. Were I to see only the side with the dots and no reference to WV, I would think it was a "Brain Games" quiz.

    I've seen worse.

It's a coin, not a medal, but this Capital Visitor Center half dollar is worse IMO.

    That's a shame.

Did they have a competition for that design? Hard to believe....
