I won't type for Scott, as he's fully capable of answering for himself, but wanted to put in my two pesos worth. If he is using the same photo to sell 3 different cards, I would have a problem with that as a buyer. Autographs and card condition can vary tremendously. I would want to see the one I was getting. However, if these are auctions for the exact same card over and over, I'd be concerned about potential market price manipulation, as well as to whether I'd receive my card I thought I was buying. There are numerous scenarios that would cause me concern about that, some potentially nefarious, and others not.

Autographed card prices are greatly dependent upon the quality of the autograph and often times the condition of the card that is signed. I seriously doubt that the seller is using the image as a stock photo and has sold multiple versions of the card (perhaps all of the previous winners returned the card or reneged on their agreements to purchase). I have no ill will toward the seller, nor am I suggesting that the seller would not follow through with the transaction. But something seems amiss. Similar to the multiple auctions for the Brady that I posted a week or two ago, I have noticed far too many sellers relisting the same "sold" card over and over again.

If you wish to believe that the seller is is using stock photos and selling multiple copies of the card, you are more than welcome. I tend to be a little more inquisitive and a little less trusting.

No where, was my answer I was refering to. I think Mike just said it better than me.
I would lean towards market price manipulation myself.

  • yes, using the same card as a 'stock' picture is odd...but if you look at the sellers past sales he seems to have some really high end cards, he may just have multiples of the card. we will see real soon if he gets bad feedback.....or maybe the buyers back out when they realize they won at a high price?? Who knows....if you wanna know the truth, ASK THE SELLER!!!

Asking rarely gets you the truth when it comes to issues like this. Feedback was left for the first $400+ sale. None was left for the BIN sale. The seller did not get feedback for either of the transactions.

For someone that was asking out of curiosity, you seem rather defensive with regard to the seller. The seller has a nice selection of material, but the auction(s) in question is a red flag in my book. YMMV...
  • not defensive at all...I'm not that kind of person. Its not my auction, Ive never dealt with the seller. Just giving another side of it, not rushing to accuse.

From what I can tell, 707 is the DOLLAR STORE compared to deans_cards. For what that guy charges, if I ever bought anything from him I would expect it to be delivered to me in a frickin' limo.
