Seller wants to cancel the transaction - interesting update!

Yesterday night I won a 10 oz Perth Mint bar for $293 delivered, which is a great buy imo.
40 minutes after the auction closed (2:15 am!), seller open a case requesting the cancellation of the auction because the item is out of stock.
(I think he wasn't happy with the price.)
Since there is nothing I can do to make him/her honor our deal, I will cancel the transaction.
Just wondering if I can I still leave feedback if we cancel the transaction?

You sure can, but if it's of a negative nature, Seller can request eBay to remove it, which they probably will.
Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

Why would eBay cancel a neg as a result of the seller not following through on a transaction?

I think it's because the transaction is cancelled with mutual agreement.
I am not planning to leave a neg (not now and most likely not even later) but I wouldn't like to see the bar relisted after I cancel the transaction.

Why would you cancel? Why wouldn't you not leave a neg? I see this as the seller not honoring the terms of his agreement and this certainly warrants a neg.

I usually give the benefit of doubt. I am not positive he's not happy with the price. He claimed the listing was for an item already sold.
When ebay changed it's feedback system, it put the burden upon sellers to perform in every conceivable way. When I sell anything on ebay, my assumption is that I will receive a neg if I don't perform beyond what I normally consider reasonable. That being the case, I expect superior performance from any seller in the same manner. And I will neg if I'm not completely happy. It does suck, but that's the ebay system now.
It's nice to give the benefit of the doubt, but the seller is playing games for profit - at your expense, in my humble opinion.
I knew it would happen.

<< <i>23% premium. Wow. >>
8% discount on the average sell price. Wow!
Apparently NOT! Not if he reneges.

Always my luck!

Guess I'll be holding that one for awhile ! ! !

Any help locating any of these OBW rolls would be gratefully appreciated!
-If you don't agree to cancel the transaction, the seller gets hit with a FVF. You'll not get your item, but it makes a point to the seller for next time.
-If you agree to cancel the transaction, the seller gets his FVF refunded.
I think the seller is a douche for not going thru with the transaction. I think he's got the item and is not happy with what it brought. You list something for sale by auction and it's free game for anyone. You take a chance, you pay the price, or reap the rewards.
Neg him if you decide to mutually cancel.
Too many positive BST transactions with too many members to list.

Me too.
Just from personal experience, premiums kill as it puts you in a hole from the beginning.

<< <i>For what it's worth i had one of these sellers do the same thing last week , asked to cancel after the auction ended and i was the one and only bidder that won for the auction start price. I could understand why he would want to cancel i suppose , sure , and i suspected i'd never see the item but i declined to cancel anyway because i wasn't going to do things his way , i felt i had paid for the right to do it my way. Next thing i know the item arrived and i left positive feedback and sent an extra 20 bucks to his paypal to ease the pain. It wasn't a coin , it was a collectible signed baseball and value is subjective at best. I did not receive any feedback but he kept the 20 clams. >>
Was the ink at least dry?

Thank you, guys!
I know what you mean but some times you have to pay a premium.
I wanted one to put aside because these bars are beautiful.

I dunno about FB Matteo but a guy who purports to sell that which he doesn't have and is unwilling to get in order to fufill his obligations is none such as decent people will ever do business with upon any terms. Ever.
Thanks for the tip on this one.

<< <i>Did you pay? Don't cancel. >>
Can't he just simply refund the payment? Seems to me that if a seller can file a NPB action then a buyer should be able to file a NPS action for a non-performing seller.

+1
I didn't look at my PayPal transaction when I paid but the refund shows the name of the company (which looked familiar to me since I purchased a bar from them last year).
This company from CA selling bars on eBay has, at least, another handle (in NY) which is the one I purchased my bar from.
I searched online and the email address for the NY seller is the same of one the members of the company in CA.
It is now clear that they were not happy with their price since they have more bars listed under the other name.
Unfortunately, a negative feedback will not hurt that account much.

Under the circumstances, I'd neg them anyways.

With the price of silver dropping, and who knows how low it will go, you may come out the winner in this deal.
