I was able to see this first-hand at the Athens museum. They had a fantastic collection of ancient gold items!

I've thought about that.. how fun would it be to hammer out a message on a 5 gram bar of gold and bury it in the middle of nowhere? Maybe no one would ever find it, maybe a race of uplifted raccoons will find it after winning the Badger Wars of 16,982.

Wow, a billion years?
Really?
I wonder if a gamma ray burst, asteroid or big meteor hit or whatever could vaporize earth within the next billion years.
Who knows....it really is incomprehensible.

None of those would vaporize the Earth. They might kill all humans (my avatar chuckles) but would spare the gold (barring any direct hits, naturally).
That is kind of an interesting concept, collectibles lasting billions of years. My paper money won't last one millionth as long!
