Funky indeed. That is some odd toning pattern, especially on the obverse. Not really attractive but if you picked up the coin on the cheap it is worth it for an interesting toner.

The coin looks like it has been gassed or a MOC coin.

    Very unusual, and definitely funky.

My first thought would be that this toning occurred while the coin was in the holder, probably from being stored in a moist environment that accelerated the oxidation process.

I doubt it was purposely exposed to chemicals to speed up toning.

You can hardly notice the toning on the front!

If you check out some of the coins that MOC gassed in the holder you might change your opinion.

I'd run in the other direction, no offense. Nothing about that toning scheme says "natural."

Rattlers have no gasket, and AT by gassing through the edge of the holder did happen. This looks to be one of the less disastrous examples of directional gassing.

Cheap coin that was a science experiment looking for tone fish to bite. I would caution people to avoid this kind of stuff where the coin entire liquidity quotient is based off the "bigger sucker philosophy", it will be painful for the last one holding the potato.

Looks a lot like what the flare of a wooden match would do from just far enough below to not damage the slab held on edge.

That coin might have been one of those rattlers AT'd by gassing.

Doesn't PCGS have some new service? Help me out.. What's it called?

We've got before pictures. They may not want to touch a con that could clean up ED.

Don't want to loser your rattler. Oy!
