Sorting a 50 gallon drum of sterling.....

Yeap that's how work started this morning. They knew I was good with coins(that's why they hired me) but they didn't know I knew bullion and antiques. So this morning the security guard wheeled in a blue plastic drum followed by the VP. The VP told me sell what you can at least 30% over spot to make up for time and shipping and such. I started to dig in and found a Tiffany & Co business card holder, a bit further a set of their salt and pepper shakers....Now looking up some of the silverware pieces I'm finding insane premiums on single items. Some bracelets from boutiques worth upwards of a grand.....

Next week there is a shipment of $20 Libs coming in for me to grade.....550 of them.

Sorry just bragging about my dream job now.

Yup, "premium to melt" is the name of the game in precious metals values. The best is to buy (or fabricate) near melt and sell for multiples of melt because of the shape the metal has been crafted. Generally, the older the "pour" or smithing of the piece, the better for collector premium, and also the more universally attractive, the more demand. Historical and artistic relevance are good, and a little rarity versus that demand can be a huge plus in figuring "premium" metal
