IIRC, Jose had one that looked just like that, no?

The cert number on that pack is different from his.
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
1. There is the blotch above the "S" in YANKEES at the bottom. (Note: Probably 1/2 of these cards have that blotch.)
2. There is a print dot in the right border by the top of his ear.
3. There is a print mark to the right of his ear in the blue area.
4. Note the slight diamond cut on the left and right edges. On the left side, the inside black border angles outward as you go from the top of the card to the bottom of the card.
While I think older unopened is great to collect, I would not touch any older packs with major stars on front.
Edited to add: Take a look at the Mantle in the legit box that Mike posted. Does not look like either of those print dots are on the card.

Need a pixel counter to verify, but I disagree, I don't think they are the same pack at all. The cards are centered differently, similar, but not exact.
<< <i>I'm amazed there are that many 67 cellos with Mantle on top that survived that we can compare them to one another. >>
Hypothetically, it wouldn't be too unusual to see same card on top of multiple 1967 cellos as cards were limited to a specific (in this case, 2nd) series.

<< <i>What is the back story with Jose and his packs? Did he have the Johnny Bench rookie cello pack? >>
He probably had them ALL!

<< <i>The pack fabricator surfaced and just posted about the FBI investigation over on net54. >>
I saw you asked him a question over there? "What about all the packs you sold people?" Would you believe ANYTHING he had to say? I do not think he would incriminate himself at this point do you? But then again... people have done dumber things!
That was more for those on net54 who interpreted his version as him not ever having sold packs, but rather as a crusader to expose Steve Hart's lack of expertise. The fact is he sold many star cellos on eBay. When some guys here asked him what else he had for sale, his reply was, "What do you want?" In hindsight we can see he meant he'd fabricate whatever you wanted and get it past Hart and into a slab.

IMO, no one should believe a word Jose says. Now that the FBI investigation is apparently over, perhaps Steve Hart and/or PSA can tell us what the truth really is.
that Bench pack caught my attention. It is my all time favorite card and to find it on top of a pack was too good to be true. Almost pulled the trigger on it--was only $500 off. Did I say too good to be true?

I can check for the board when I get home, but I don't think it's one of his. And yes, the "Unopened with Stars on Top" thread got poofed.

I wish Scott, but I did save the pictures of it that Reed had posted on BBCE's FB page IIRC.

<< <i>The pack in the Memory Lane auction isn't the "Jose Special" pack that MrSnuffleupagus posted. The centering on the Mantle card is different. >>
I agree with you Maurice, but I don't think it is the pack from that BBCE box either.

I wonder.... (if this is Jim Thorpe the hall of famer...but it looks quite a lot more like the golfer Jim Thorpes signature...)

Here is another 67 cello that 'Survived' thanks to Jose! Good thing he had the foresight to save a bunch of sweet 1967 cello!
