Six months ago you'd have given your eye teeth to buy all you can eat gold at $1400 an ounce. Your dollars haven't changed, and gold hasn't changed

They're a hair larger than a 90% dollar, and a hair smaller than an ASE.
Now I have to get the proof versions

<< <i>How many are in each sheet of those 1 oz J-M bars? I gotta get me some of those. >>
I ordered 10 bars the first order from Goldmart.com and they came like this in a sheet of 10. I ordered 20 bars the second order and they came in a whole sheet of 20, so I just cut them down the middle and made 2 sheets of 10.
I think they come in sheets of 20 from Johnson Matthey.

These are almost certainly Sunshine Mint "restrikes" of JM bars.
Some people don't have a problem with them. There is nothing more important than integrity in the world of physical bullion, and (to me, at least) one maker reproducing decades-old discontinued bars of another manufacturer crosses the line.

Interesting. I'll have to dig a little deeper and investigate this......

Is it possible that Sunshine Mint (a highly reputable company) got licensing rights from J-M to make these bars? Do you doubt that they each contain a full ounce of 999 fine silver? I don't see a problem here.

I could buy generic 1 ounce silver bars. There is a reason I don't, and there is a reason first tier bars command first tier prices.
Sunshine is reputable enough, their bars with their name is sufficient.
As I said, integrity is the most important thing about physical bullion. That's the entire reason for a hallmark, the entire reason for a brand. The only reason. So no thanks. If I wanted Sunshine, I'd buy Sunshine.
Is a Harley made by Suzuki a Harley? It could be licensed, and if you out gas in it and it starts. But that doesn't make it a Harley.

I do get what your saying , but it's not always as cut and dried as that. Fender guitars for example , best known for being a US made guitar and the older ones much sought after , the new ones made in mexico carry a myth that they can't be as good as a US made one , ask any serious guitarist if thats true , the made in mexico fenders are every bit as good. Im sure other examples are out there.
I work for one of the most known brand in the fashion industry.
When you buy our products I don't think you can expect that the Man himself made them.
It is the idea, the concept, the design behind a product that define a brand.
Those are JM bars, imo. Not as cool as the ones minted in the 80's? Definitely.

They are also not as expensive. Some people want to just buy silver in a recognized form without paying a big premium for a collectible.

I think the ones I bought a year or so ago were under 10k #'s. now they are at almost a million.
<< <i>Harley... >>
Did someone say Harley?
Edited to add:
This is worth about 12.49 oz of Au or 760.29 oz of Ag (Spot price of course).
