I think the vast majority of collectors would prefer an empty 1952 Topps wax box, which typically can be had for $1,000 or less. That's where I'd peg the value of this case box.
People really have interesting collecting tastes. I'm probably in the minority, but I see absolutely NO value in an empty box unless I have an upcoming move planned. Yes, that box may have had something really awesome in it at one point.... but you know what? It doesn't have that thing in it anymore. What it is now is an EMPTY BOX.
Nice pickup, whoever buys this. Enjoy having that cardboard box!

finally!!! i have finally read something in this hobby that is rediculous... this is more model train collecting than cards... i know guys who pay 300 bucks for a carboard tube that houses a caboose from a set sold in the 50's just to have the original packing for their set - bonkers.
i'd pay 50K for a tolilet seat the Mick used before i paid it for a box that once had cards in it...
that said, its a cool looking artefact - i would think Topps would make a decent offer for it for their archive.
Guy also says this is the case from the Mr Mint find. As i recall I thought those were all in 3 cards per pack cellos, that the owner opened before Rosen arrived. None were with gum or wax I thought?
I have bought a box before, but only to fill it up. But nothing in the range of thousands. Someone on here has a run of boxes from 1953 up? It looks nice together. But the case is just plain ugly. The price is just a decoy to get people to look at their other inventory and publicity that some card sites can write about.

Wonder what his rock bottom price is?
$52K+ for the box is the asking price.
