1916-D Mercury Question
I recently absconded a 1916-D Merc off Ebay. I'm certain it came from the ground and I will only get "Details" when I send it in. It needs to be cleaned (dirt literally falls off it) and I'm wondering if its worth having PCGS restore it or if they even will since it'll only get "Details"?

'16-D Mercs are the most counterfeited coin in the world or darn close to it.

AG3's go for 400-500. That's more than "not that much" to me.

Soapy water in an ultrasonic for 5 minutes will shake of much of the looser stuff.
Rinse in whatever you like. Long acetone soak. Sometime Goo-Gone is needed. Used it on gem type and had no damage issues.
Fresh acetone in an ultrasonic again.
Quick rinse in more fresh acetone.
I don't understand why alcohol or, especially, hot running water (which I interpret to mean tap water with minerals and chemicals and whatever other contaminants in it) would be involved.
I don't know why more people don't use an ultrasonic. $75 on the Internet and so easy to use that you'll quickly forget that all the instructions are in Chinese
Do NOT put your fingers in an active ultrasonic. I've been told that prolonged exposure wll crystallize bone material.
