Nice image of a beautiful coin. Does it look like that in hand or is this a typical glamour shot?

I think it looks more vivid in hand with much more pop. However Phil did an outstanding job getting all the color in the photo!

Why is that coin not a 67 or even better? I don't see any marks.

Agreed, I thought it was a lock 67 but we can't win them all. image

a beautiful coin to be sure, but I accuse you of misusing the word key as associated with a 1950-D Jefferson Nickel. JMHO

Why is that coin not a 67 or even better? I don't see any marks.

either we're looking at different coins or you're kidding, I see plenty of marks and a weak strike which places the coin as an MS64/65 with a bump for eye appeal. it appears to be late EDS with soft detail at all the obvious places.

I disagree with you, yes the coin is an average strike but the coin is very clean and nearly mark free, so we must be looking at different coins.

I'm not trying to be argumentative, but I see friction along the jawline into the hair and ear, friction and light contacts on the shoulder near the rim on the obverse; on the reverse I see multiple ticks on the dome and pillar area and some kind if gouge above pillar #3 which totally obliterates some of the detail. these are all prime focal areas, the rest of the coin is clean, especially the fields.

with that said I still think it's a lovely coin, just not an MS67 nor mark free. I will admit to not being enamored with the coin as some are, 1950-D is just a date which comes hammered and quite often toned nicely.
