TGIF - I finished my first Modern $25 Platinum Liberty set and I love it

I finally finished my favorite modern series and no matter what people say about Moderns I love it image

It took about 4 years and approx $10K but they look really nice in hand and something I feel happy I've accomplished

Since it’s Friday and the spring is finally here – I figured I’d share their pictures. Hope you like them too…..

To avoid posting multiple pictures I combined them in two as I see them.

Apologies for my not so great picture taking and image editing skills image

    Great looking set!

Are you planning to do the bullion versions in MS70 also?

Nicely done. I really wanted to do this set as well but couldn't afford to do so at the time.

Congrats Alex. We found this place around the same time and its good to see others putting together sets. I have 3 coins left to find and it was a fun ride starting with those 5 Ounce ATB"s. Nice Job on finishing your set Whats Next? Enjoy image

Congrats! Just fantastic. Some of those designs (1998, 2004, 2008) are just flat out gorgeous.

Fantastic set! Some of the reverses are the best work our Mint has done in the modern age IMHO.

Congratulations! That's a sweet looking set.
  • Thanks all for your compliments and a few for contributing to this set - 2008-W PR70 came from Wondercoin as part of our BST deals image

What’s next? I do want to complete the $25 bullion version and about third of it is done. To answer Overdate – yes I know it will be nearly impossible with early 1997 through 1999 MS70 pops in low single digits, one of them if I recall correctly only 1 with the price guide around $20K that I will never be able or willing to pay. I accept the fact I will likely have to settle for MS70 starting from 2000 and MS69 in 1997-1999

Another small set I’d like to finish are current $100 2010-2013 and depending on design 2014 Plats (sorry don’t care about 2009). Another possibility finishing burnished "W" Platinum set for 2006-2008 in all denominations. Will also keep going with short Gold “W” $50 burnished subset and First Spouses Liberty sub-set

To answer 1tommys question regarding ATB image I’m thinking to re-start my bullion 5oz ATB run, I started building a set going for all MS69PL but took a pause after sour taste for a while loosing some money in ATBs. However I like the designs and they may not look like real "coins" but to me they are collectible and would look pretty nice one day as the complete set. You would ask why MS69PL ? I kind of like the PL look and the set is easier to build than in DMPL as not all years had DMPL . I must admit I lost a bit track with current ATB bullion offerings but kind of hope that I can find all current designs in PL. ATBs are the only Silver for me going forward – thanks for a few spotted ASEs I’m no longer taking chances with “collector” silver

And last but not least is the “Box of 20” moderns that do not fit into above series – UHR, 2007 Reverse Plat $50 Liberty, 2008 Burnished “W” Buffalos and hopefully any special 2013 Buffalo we all hope for this year image

If I was to collect a modern series with lots of upside potential and great artistry, this would be it. Very nice!
