Always buying Bobby Cox inserts. PM me.
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
Honestly, I think the most I've ever sweated during an auction was around this time last year during the Dmitri Young auction.

Oh man-- my one lot says closed too and if that's the case boo ya! Was some heated bidding for a minute this afternoon and was certain I'd get squashed.

Great pickup! You guys are making me second-guess myself, almost, about the bidding rules. I will feel like the biggest jerk if I am wrong, but am comfortable you are winners tonight!
Odd fact - as I am writing this I received an outbid notice from REA. I guess people have already moved onto the next one!
<< <i>Only really in the running for two or three items. Not the 1952 packs, unfortunately. >>
Amazing They can fetch 18k on a 52 wax pack given it was graded by GAI.
Esquire,
Thx for confirming-- can exhale now. I'm kind of shocked-- haven't had a bid hold outside eBay in a long time. I was after one of my all time favorite cards: the D304 Cobb. Pretty low pop across SGC and PSA in all conditions. Saw one that was a Brunner's back at a show recently in SGC 1.5, had tremendous eye appeal but the owner wanted $7500 cash and would not budge. He knew how tough it was not to find mangled. VCP shows that it almost never comes up, and when it does the image is ruggedly jacked up. I saw this one in my range and had to make a run. In higher grade it's just not possible price wise for me, so a low grade one was the move. To me it's all about the front on this card so back was not a concern. I see the T206s everywhere though I love the Bat Off image, but I have always been drawn aesthetically to the duo of the d304 and Cracker Jack.

Whoa. Beautiful card! The guys at Net54 would really appreciate this one (not that people here won't). I have been looking at maybe getting into some vintage cards, and Leon and crew have a ton of knowledge. While some of the guys come off like the stuck-up vintage dealers that turned me away Fromm vintage at the card shows in the late 80s and 90s, the knowledge base is incredible and most are very friendly and helpful. There is one REA Cobb I bid on that I could possibly win. Great pick-up!
<< <i>My understanding is that the first generation label GAIs are very reliable, but there are more advanced collectors like Griffins that can chime in on this one. I own several first generation GAI packs, so I hope so! >>
You are right Scott and don't be too worried. I've busted out many GAI first generation packs and submitted to PSA without a problem. In my experience over 95% of the GAI first generation packs are good, but luckily I'm batting 1.000 so far with them. People have to remember that they were the only game in town for awhile. The real major issue GAI had was with those grocery cellos and then a bunch of freshly wrapped 1977 wax packs which they graded.
I think many unopened guys actually prefer the GAI holder especially for wax packs over PSA although their newer holders are working out better. No wrapper ripping issues from the gum in those GAI holders that I've heard.

I really liked the fact that they let each lot end if it wasn't still receiving bids. This made the auction much more fun to watch in the overtime bidding. I lucked out and won all three lots I was bidding on. The only problem with winning all three lots is having to liquidate a few cards to cover my good luck
Jeff
I like the way Heritage's auctions end as well.

<< <i>From what I can tell I won the 69 blue cello...shows me as high bidder and closed but I haven't gotten a notice to pay or of the win. Not sure how the HA closing process works??? >>
I've gotten my invoice the next day, but I think it was in the afternoon. I remember it wasn't automatic. Congrats, that would have been one of my choices if I didn't already spend too much.

If crossing over to PSA, do I have to break it from the GAI holder?
Prices were pretty decent in this auction. The 66 and 67 wax packs went for a real good buyers price.
Edited to add link if works.
69 cello
I went after the 1968 GAI 8.5 rack pack but bailed after $1,200.

<< <i>at least they are consistent, they're probably the slowest auction house on shipping lots out as well. >>
You aren't lying. I live in Dallas (where HA is based), and it took over a month for me to receive the last item I won from them. At some point you'd think I should just be able to swing by on my lunch hour and pick the package up!

I finally got my FedEx tracking number from the prior week's auction so I guess I shouldn't complain too much. At least their shipping & handling costs seemed reasonable.

<< <i>nothing is more negotiable than AH shipping rates. >>
I didn't realize that Anthony. So if you think they are high, the AH's are receptive to adjusting the shipping costs?

Nice! You don't have to reveal, but was it the Eddie Collins? I was checking that one out, but since money does not grow on trees I had to bow out of that one. Either way, any Black Swamp card is awesome and I'll look forward to your post...
Matt -- that D304 Cobb is one amazing card, and the front of yours looks nice for the grade. Plus, when you see SGC has only graded 8 examples, it's not your everyday Cobb card. Great score!
I was high bidder on this N43 Ewing, which has always looked more like a piece of art to me than just a "baseball card". I like how it's a re-interpretation of Buck's N29 card, with the added space for the player catching the popup, barehanded, no less.
My strategy of placing an early high bid worked in this case, although I'm surprised it held up. REA has the same card in the same grade in their current auction, so it will be interesting to see how that one does by comparison. Heritage has some bright colors on their scans, but here it is until I get it in and get it re-scanned....
Jeff
Congrats to all who had winning bids, and if you had none then look on the bright side -- now you have money left over for REA!

Thank you, Mike! I didn't know that. So I can go down there with a check in hand and pick up the cards I won?

I don't know their policy with personal checks as far as whether they want to hold them to clear or not. However if you pay with cash or debit/credit card, then yes, simply call and let them know you are coming to pick your item up and they'll retrieve it and have it ready to roll for you

Jeff
I have yet to receive an invoice.
Killer Wagner you grabbed there, Jeff! Really nice.

They charge sales tax since they have an office about a mile from me in Beverly Hills, but you can't actually pick up anything there.
