short, thin scratch near the foot, how bad does it detract from the overall appearance at the 4-5 level ? ? i have it for sale on the BST, and id like to get a public opinion before the question comes into play

Another 15 degrees horizontal or so and it would look like the best ever sandal seperation of a vg/g seated quarter.

I don't think it's an issue other than a casual mention and would probably grade if you're into such things.

I would say that scratch makes almost no impact on the coin in question. Cheers, RickO

super original coin, does have the scratch on the obv, and another very shallow one on the reverse at about the 4:30 area, just barely through the toning. almost full liberty, some detail remaining in the figure, and the reverse isnt too bad either

By bad if you mean eye appeal, I would say yes and would wait for one without a scratch. If you mean in value, very little at this grade.

    Minor at this grade level.

The scratch isn't as big of a deal as the "make an offer" thing. If you want to sell it, sell it.

the spots would probably come off with a bit of acetone, or some soap, much easier than removing the scratch. in response to moldnut, id rather trade it than sell it. if i get an offer that makes sense, i may sell it.

It looks like a staple scratch from careless removal of a coin from a 2X2. That said, it doesn't look that bad in your pic but it may look far worse under a lamp while being rotated and tilted.

Discernment and refinement start here. Bad is bad and good is good. A filler is better than an empty hole.
How much dirt is in an empty hole ? No worries, no problems. Those are in the minds of the persons who have them.
