Considering getting gamer signed. -- Opinions wanted

Recently picked up a 2012 Phillies Road Papelbon game used jersey & was considering having it autographed.
Question is what pen lasts the longest on a jersey & where to have him sign it. I was thinking
silver paint pen on the red number or possibly black sharpie on the grey
Or is it a bad idea to have gamers signed?

Curious to hear board members experiences & thoughts.

Thanks

There have been extensive discussions about this on another forum and the consensus is that Deco brand paint pens work best. Just make sure that you shake the pen well and have it primed. So have something to scribble on just before you hand over jersey to get the ink going.

On the number is preferred spot. Some people ask "game worn" inscription to be added.

Personally, I don't get my jerseys signed (unless they come that way). I prefer them to look just as they did when worn. Just my personal feeling. Would save signatures for non-game worn.

Yeah game used or worn inscriptions is a VERY good idea. Had A Miguel gonzalez ball and had him put game used on it, is just adds to the provenance when the player writes it because thats even more proof and it helps maintain value.

Go with paint pen on the number, either on the top of the 5 or the middle of the 8. That'd be my choice.

I used a silver sharpie on a Brewers Hoffman Jersey. I got it on their gray jersey and had him sign the number. You can see his signature okay, but it's not very bright. I'm still kicking myself for thinking a sharpie would be bright enough. Also, it's personalized, which is alright to some extent, but his signature is on the bottom of the 5 and and therefore smaller than the rest of the inscription written on the rest of the number.
