Declared value submission questions

I tried looking up previous posts but for some odd reason, the pages wouldn't load.

So.... I'll ask yet again

What are your opinions regarding declared value and its affect on a grading?

What is the "rule of thumb" when adding a declared value?

What do you do if a cards value flirts with their tiered pricing structure? For example, if the card is worth close to $500 ( depending on grading), what service grading option is suitable?

Also, do they charge more if the submission grades higher than expected? I can see this being an issue with a lot of psa 9's with potential for 10

Thanks

declared value has no impact on grade card gets. well except maybe that t206 trimmed wagner.

declared value is for the card in a PSA 8 holder.

that is pretty simple. what is the amount of money from insurance you want if the PO loses or steals your package? if you are willing to lose money if your package gets lost or stolen then place the cheaper value on the card. service level can also bring faster grading. keep in mind that if you put a value on a well known card that is under the known value PSA will catch it. now if its a rare unpriced modern card (ie a card numbered say under 10 that might be signed) PSA might not catch it. but a Jordan RC they will catch.

no they dont charge more if the card grades higher than an 8. if they did that they would lose there impartial third party status. it would be more important to them to grade cards at 9's and 10's.

i think those answer your questions.

"service level can also bring faster grading"

In addition, make sure to check the maximum value per service level you choose. I declared $25 bucks over a few times with double checking, and ended up in the receive hold universe. image

I didn't know that. What if you have a card that is clearly a 5? You still have to declare an 8 value?

I think there is another explanation for the PSA 8 theory because there is no way the declared value of my 19th century cards that may be a PSA 2 to 4 should be a PSA 8 before subbing.

I'm guessing psa is more for modern era cards. Vintage definitely needs to go down a few notches based on the card
