I was out looking yesterday at 3 places and things were pretty grim.
My main guy was looking green around the gills and not selling.
Number 2 guy looked nervous and wasn't selling
Number 3 guy wasn't there and the door was locked.
At number one I spent $60 on a sweet raw 1880 morgan thats maybe a 64 , I liked it its got a light ring of toning around the rim. I bought $10 face of Wheat pennies for $40 and $20 of non silver canadian coin at face value , all pennies and nickles.
I didn't need any of it and I didn't want it particularly but I didn't want to go in and leave without spending.
At place number 2 I bought 5$ face in wheat pennies for $30 and a small wad of silver certificates and red seal $2 bills for $100
Why did I do this ? Some of these guys are very nervous and they don't want to sell at what they see as a loss. They have seen dozens of people come in wanting cheap metal who leave without buying anything when they can't get what they want. Its very easy to make a bad impression on a day like this so do the opposite.
I didn't spend a ton of money but in both places I was the only positive cash flow for the whole day.
This is called building bridges and in my experience it pays huge dividends .
buy some inventory out of the coin case and so they can make some money on a bad day. Don't put yourself out but grab some non bullion and you could become a favored customer in the future.

I wish people felt so benevolent when they look at my BST listings.
He's only selling a little here and there, trying not to take too big a loss.
