Anyone collect 1964 Topps Stand-Ups?

I'm still a good year (probably more) from completing my 1971 Topps Greatest Moments set. I tend to like the off beat stuff and thinking maybe starting this one next. Anyone here collect it? There are a bunch of HOFers in it. I aso here there are some tougher single prints.

    Hey Daniel,

I have about 30 different PSA ones from the set. MAYBE 1 or 2 stars and SPs ... the rest commons. I have the set in PSA 4, 5 and 6. I really like the set and if you are patient you can get the mid-graded ones for a decent price. Also, many of the mid graded ones present very nicely.

    Good Luck!

The 1964 Stand-Ups set is one of the oddball sets that I like the most. When I had my Mathews collection, I had that one in an 8. Just really cool items.

I love the set. I completed mine about 2 years ago. Currently # 13 on the PSA registry. Started a 2nd set when I started upgrading.

Also have an unopned pack with Yaz showing. Nice!!

  • Nice pack, I heard these came in 5 cent packs as well, never actuall seen one. The 1 cents seem relative speaking easy to find.

That is an awesome pack. BBCE has a few on their site (PSA graded) for $300-$600.

A few years ago (maybe 5?) an entire box was sold one pack at a time. I think a lot of us unopened collectors picked one up.

Edited to add: The penny packs.

I have a set of them and a couple of unopened packs, which are still pretty easy to find. I bought this, which I recently posted over on a similar thread in the Registry forum, from Topps Vault some years back

great piece. I remember when it was auctioned.

Doug--you would be referring to the garage sale find where Steve actually was sent by Mastro to inspect the box....who then bought it and auctioned it on eBay. Whole set in 1 penny packs!

yup, Manny is right- the entire box was bought by a Mastro employee, and then auctioned to a prominent collector in Arkansas who immediately put all the packs on the market at once. Values plummeted and they are still down, so it's a good time to grab one.
Steve Hart had a nickel pack at the National in '06. It's the only one I've seen. Wasn't in great shape, so I passed. Came back an hour later and it was gone.
The set itself isn't that tough unless you're looking to collect it in very high grade. I started it in Ex+ on a Wednesday at the National in '08 and by the end of the show I was only missing 3-4 cards. It's an interesting set and you should be able to complete it with less effort than the '71 GM set.

Is there just one card in the 1 cent pack?

If so, wouldn't that card have some condition issues?

yes, one card in the penny pack, and it would definitely have some issues- that is why a lot of standups are found with wax stains, especially on the back.
Plus you can easily see what card is inside, no need to rip the pack.
