Snuffy - Your avatar never fails to freak me out. I'm watching this card just to see what it ends at. My guess....a whole lotta $$.

The card is actually a bit oversized which is the reason for the baggy insert in the holder instead of the typical mini holder insert. This card was graded by 4SC at some point according to the cert #.

This is a very awesome card. I sold mine for $4500 last year. Still miss it. This one looks very deserving of the grade. Even in PSA 9 they rarely come up. First card in set and nice image of Aaron with the bat. I love every color combo of 75 but this one is one of my top, along with the Nolan and Winfield combo.

One of my all-time favorite cards. So nice. My WAG...$3300.

Wow, what a cool card, though the fish eyes detract a bit, it's still a beauty. Matty? Do you have your snipe set for Sunday? image

Two things are stupid about this auction, but neither will not stop the real buyers that are going after this card.

First, the seller didn't even care enough about this high end card to change the description from his usual "you are bidding only on the card in the title....." I understand that the few buyers that will shell out the kind of money it will take to win this card don't need a fluffy description, but still.

Second, the $3.00 shipping. This is just stupid because it will likely cost him 10X that amount to ship it correctly.

Like I said, most likely neither thing will take away from the final price, but they're both just stupid.

At least we know the back scan won't be scaring away bidders.

By the way, am I the only one on the planet who has always been bothered by the "all star" being on Hank's highlight card in 1975 instead of his regular card (#660)?

Three stupid things, I stand corrected.

Thanks for pointing that out Tom.

<< <i> First card in set and nice image of Aaron with the bat. >>

Infinitely superior to his regular card in the set, which is really pretty crummy.

Cards in this auction are bringing strong prices. This card is going to go higher then most estimates is my bet.

I take that gibberish as a yes. You know, this really needs to be in the other section. If I had acted like you did, the peanut gallery would be out in full force ready to tar and feather me. They have a BUY/SELL/TRADE section that is perfect for people touting their own auctions.

Bobby this is not his card. Come on dude.

How do you know it isn't his card? A consignor is selling it....never mind I guess....What's good for the goose isn't always good for the gander on the PSA message board. Carry on....

Sorry C-Dude....just stating the truth. Do you think if I did that, I would get a free pass?? Really?? Come on now.

It was a great night for me - won 4 huge cards I have been chasing awhile:
The #1 Aaron HL Mini 2K
    The 1973 #1 Ruth/Aaron/Mays 10 pop1 3.8K (still cant believe I actually won this card)
    The 1971 B. Robinson psa9 3.5K
    The 1971 Blyleven rookie psa9 3.1K
I don't think any of them were overpriced like some of the white-whale commons that have killed me.

    Congrats Henry
    Amazing purchases
Can't find that 73 #1 card - was it on eBay?
  • Thanks Matt! Yah the 1973 #1 Ruth was auctioned along the other 3...psa 10, pop 1. It wasn't perfectly centered but was very clean. I don't consider it a strong 10 but for that particular card I was okay with it. IMO that card should be a center-piece of any high end 1970s collection. I thought for sure Spence or BBCards4U would destroy my snipe.

Good call. Seems to narrow a bit at the top. Could just be the scanner but definitely worth a look.
  • MattyCMattyC Posts: 1,335 ✭✭
Def could be scanner-- it's amazing how many enlarged scans make edges seem wavy and then in hand not at all.

If you were in the auction it would be 4 stupid things.
  • Is that to infer I was stupid for bidding on that card because I did not see a back scan? Well...to each his own. I'm a face guy myself and I also trust PSA enough that they will not slab a 10 on that type of card without the back being centered enough to justify it. Obviously, I am educated enough to know on that card the back is often poorly centered. The day I obsess over the back of the card is the day I need help and should quit this hobby. I bid on eye-appeal and give it a good look. Perhaps this is why the card sold for 3.8 and not 5 like the experts predicted. My snipe was significantly below 5 and not much higher than the win - so I believe that there were at least 2 idiots that came to a reasonable conclusion on what that card should have been bid for.

Wow, congrats! I was watching all these auctions close in amazement at the prices. I picked up the Winfield RC and the 1971 Munson from the same seller. Looks like a good night for both of us! image

  • Nice CA! I was thinking of the Munson and the Winfield but believe it or not I have a budget image I guess that is the fun about auctions like this, there is some cat and mouse involved. A funny story. I was showing my new wife the joys of sniping and we were watching the B. Robinson's last seconds. It bumped from 1800 to 1850 then 1900 then at the very last second it jumped to 3500! Let me tell you, that is the last time I do something that dumb...actually I got confused for about 15 seconds because I couldn't remember if I bid higher or lower than the final price. Luckily, I sniped just north of 3.5..whew!

Yeah, that was interesting. I was thinking it was a bargain at 1800 then I blink and it's 3500....someone made a late push. Congrats for holding on. It's a beautiful card!
Once I started seeing what everything was closing at, I just assumed I'd lose the Munson. My high bid was right around what it closed at and I figured someone else would jump in but there were no bids late and I can now cross one of my must haves off my list image

    Congrats on the purchase.
