Difference between Topps and Topps Tiffany???

I'm trying to get a true understanding as to all the differences between Topps and Topps Tiffany. I've been reading online and I've heard everything from the asterisks test (which isn't true) to the gloss. The gloss seems to be the clear marking but is there anything else?

  • Just the gloss and also produced in limited quantities as opposed to the regular sets. Oh, that and they also fetch a lot more for the graded and more sought out players/cards.

Yes, for the non-traded sets, the back of the Tiffany cards will have more of a bright white background.

For example, here is the back of a 1988 Topps Tiffany

  • Tiffany I believed used the same stock as the Traded sets of the day. The white stock. But also had a clear UV coating. I believe these were printed in Ireland? But yes, they were limited in availability and only came in factory set form. 1987 I believe is the most available for all the Tiffany sets out there. I think the traded can be had for about double the cost of a regular traded set. 1991 from what I hear is numbered to 5,000? And then 1984, which was the first Tiffany set issued is pretty hard to find. Mattingly Tiffany PSA 10 sells a little over $1,000 these days.

I believe all Tiffany sets have a production count of 5,000.

Topps Tiffany is one set that I have not branched off and collected for my Cardinals team sets. I also have not collected OPC. Both of those are on my "to do" list for my Cardinals team sets.
