SCAM Alert on eBay

Is anyone aware of a scam on eBay with 2nd chance offers on high dollar items? I may be late to the party, but I almost got roped into this. Thankfully, enough red flags came up where I didn't pay, but the scumbag scammer sent E-mails that looked 100% authenttic from eBay and kept emphasizing he wanted the transaction done through eBay for MY protection. It started off very smooth and I almost handed it over but enough things felt off where I caught it in time. It was one of those 2nd chance offers on an item I didn't win but offering to sell it to me at my bid because the winning bidder flaked out...
The scary thing is he had all my profile info on eBay just from me being the 3rd highest bidder on a card. I thought my identity was protected in bid history....? I am going to be in contact with eBay tomorrow on that, but the invoice he sent me had my name, an old address, and an old number...very strange

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
<< 2nd chance offers are not legit? If they are but the one you got was not, please explain the difference. Thanks. >>
There have been a lot of phony second chance offers going around at below your max bid. I have yet to receive it, but basically, if you receive an offer do not click the link. Go on eBay and accept the offer (if it exists) manually.

2nd chance offers are legit. But there are also fake 2nd chance offers that are a common scam. To expand on what Rick said, here's some important info from eBay regarding this:
Make sure the Second Chance Offer is legitimate
We'll never send a Second Chance Offer email with the subject line "Message from eBay Member." If you receive an email with that subject line, it's a fake. Forward the email to spoof@ebay.com.
Learn more about recognizing and reporting fake emails.
Here's how you'd receive a legitimate Second Chance Offer notice:
On the ended listing page: After a listing ends, you may see a Second Chance Offer message on the ended listing page stating that you've received a Second Chance Offer on this item. To view the details and buy the item, click the Second Chance Offer link.
In the Messages section of My eBay: you'll receive a Second Chance Offer email from eBay in your inbox.
In My eBay: Go to My eBay. In the Buy section, click Didn't Win.

edited to add: Yeah, what they said above but *most* importantly; never, ever click eBay links provided in regular emails (aka phishing).
His final move was sending me an invoice asking me to wire funds into some offshore account that is overseen by eBay for the buyer's protection...lol. That's when it really falls apart, though I am sure there may be the occasional person that may fall for that.
Regardless. he's able to take a picture and link of the eBay item and turn it itno a very authentic looking e-mail from eBay, so it's worth looking out for.
Looks like by some other member's responses, this has been going around a while?
Anytime anyone gets a 2nd chance offer in their mailbox, see if it's in their eBay messages and that will be your answer

It is also a good practice to never click on any link from any e-mail especially ones from your bank or credit card company. Take the time to open a new tab in your browser
and access the account as you normally would. If they have a great offer you'll find it on their real web site.
One easy thing to look for (besides the fact that it dosen't show up in your eBay messages inbox) I noticed when he forwarded me the e-mail he got........the scam has an e-mail address under the eBay user ID (eBay does everything possible to avoid leeting potential buyers contact sellers via e-mail)
I think this just happened to me. Was excited to see a 2nd chance in my email for a T206. However, nothing in my ebay account about it.
I didnt respond and sent it to spoof@ebay...waiting to hear back.
What I don't understand is how they know my full name, username, and email address.
Actually, I hope its legit. Id love to make the purchase

If it's not in your eBay inbox, it's not legit as others have noted.
And I agree the somewhat scary part if that the scammer had my address, contact info, E-mail, etc

I was burned though years ago when I responded to a "Power-seller" spam. Account was hijacked but ebay helped me resolve it quickly. If I remember correctly, the person was selling tractors with my account.
Thanks again for sharing! Probably saved me big bucks!
