Another USPS rant

I sent an item Prio Mail on 3/27 to an adjacent state. It arrived at the local post office today, day 4. Wow!

<< <i>I'm standing at the PO counter now looking for a "Missent" PCGS order coming back to me. A little worried that there is a "Guns and Ammo" mag at the workers station. >>
Was it opened to an article about going postal?

2-3 days is only an estimate, not a guarantee. Unless it is going farther than 600 miles, priority does not usually involve anything other than ground transport. I really don't think you have much to gripe about.

Got my package. Lesson learned, first sign of trouble get on the problem. They pulled my package off a truck going to a different location. Have my 50-C $5 and 56 $20 in hand now. Their own system alerted me to the problem.

Totally agree. What is the issue here? Estimated time 2-3, delivered on day 4. That is worthy of starting a rant thread?

Don't know why it is being held up, but it is!
<< <i>I have a Priority package which I sent out 5 days ago and it hasn't moved more than 30 miles (it needs to go ~700 miles!)

You should call and find out why, assuming that it is there and not moved on but never scanned. Go to the USPS site and choose find locations. Put in the zip code where it is and it will bring up the main P.O. and any branch locations. Click on the main location and there will be a local phone number.

I hope so. Mailed 3/27, delivered 3/30 is three days, not four.

27,28,29,30
mailed 11:59 pm on the 27th and delivered at 12:01 am on the 30th equates to 2 physical days, but 4 calendar days.
that. No tracking showed up, nada, nothing. Buyer said he had his eyes peeled, but no show on that end.
PO said I had to wait 30 days to make any claim. Well, about three weeks into the wait I decided to go
down to the PO where I dropped it off. I had watched the lady scan it. Asked her to look around
and she did. Went into the back and came out with my package. Huh?
Yep, she said it was down at the bottom (heavy and small) of one of those canvass bins and nobody could
reach it. Said she had to tip the bin over to get it out.
I bit my tongue. Said nothing. It showed up two days later and the buyer was quite pleased it did not
get lost. Worked out fine but I did learn that PO employees do not go the extra mile or reach to the bottom
of the bin.

Nice try.
When the USPS says they'll deliver in 2-3 days, you don't count the day you drop it in the box. 28, 29, 30.
USPS did what they were supposed to in this case.

Looks like there are calendar days and USPS days.

No, what you learned was that SOME post office employees may not go the extra mile or reach to the bottom of the bin.....and, that is IF they seen it.
You really didn't learn much as there is too much info missing.
What I have learned, from threads like these, is that people make a ton of assumptions and there is very little concrete evidence to support the "learnings".

I actually mailed it on the 26th, so I gave them that day as a freebie. It's really day 5
I guess I'm complaining because:
a) I remember when Prio Mail had a 2d guarantee for most locations, and
b) it was a lot cheaper then, and
c) this was only going a few hundred miles and there was no bad weather
Been shipping tons of packages daily for 20+ years
Express guarantee yes, priority mail no

<< <i>Yes. Was probably 8-10 years ago they eliminated their guaranteed delivery. Anyone else remember that? >>
I remembered the same and did a quick look....
Back in 1993, this came out
Pursuant to a congressional request, GAO reviewed the U.S. Postal Service's (USPS) advertising for priority mail delivery, focusing on: (1) whether USPS has guaranteed 2-day delivery of priority mail in its advertisements; (2) priority mail customers' recent delivery experiences; and (3) USPS changes in its advertisement and delivery of priority mail.
GAO found that: (1) the USPS advertising campaign for priority mail delivery promoted guaranteed two-day service; (2) USPS has stopped priority mail advertisements and is revising its advertising campaign to avoid misleading customers about priority mail delivery; (3) USPS measures delivery times from the date of postmark to the date mail is available to mail carriers for delivery; (4) USPS has delivered priority mail within 2 days 77 to 87 percent of the time; (5) the Postal Inspection Service has concluded that priority mail cannot be delivered within 2 days to all destinations due to airline transportation limitations; (6) USPS is considering publishing a list of destinations that are exceptions to the 2-day standard in order to clarify customers' expectations for priority mail delivery; and (7) USPS is eliminating internal problems to improve priority mail delivery service
So, they did promote it as guaranteed and they did stop that.

<< <i>I once had a USPS Priority mail package that showed back up to me after 30 days (I am in Arizona), the tracking system showed it being delivered in New York. >>
Yes sir, after careful research is has been determined Arizona is the problem hub for the USPS.
After over 1000 USPS mailings to-from, I have never had an issue with USPS.
(Ok, one Morgan arrived 6 months late.. -but it got here).
