"However, he concedes transporting $1 billion worth of gold bars would be impractical, so he suggests selling the gold and repurchasing it in Texas."
This is what will happen. FED will negotiate a price and pay in dollars. Now would be a good time to open a gold wholesale operation in Texas. Somebody is gonna make a big sale.
"Interest rates, the price of money, are the most important market. And, perversely, they’re the market that’s most manipulated by the Fed." - Doug Casey
<< <i>That's only about a semi load at today's price. The Fed can ship $40 billion in cash to Iraq, but we can't move one truck across the country? >>
To many "Preppers and Stackers in the good ole US of A"
Not to mention moving stuff to Iraq is shipped by one of the military branches... Could you imagine the conspiracy theorists as a military convoy rolled fully armed down a US Highway...
Another thing to think about... In Iraq, if someone tried to hijack the truck, we would just shoot them or blow them up... something else that can not happen on American soil.
I wonder how many bars they are talking about. They could do it in a bunch of smaller loads rather than the entire load of gold at once.

There was a story on Yahoo about the Fed transporting $40 billion in cash/$100s from New York. Wasn't too bad to the Baghdad airport, but the intriguing part was getting it from the airport to the bank. Not unexpectedly, a lot of it never could be accounted for. I linked the story here, but the link is no longer active.

I'm with Fox Mulder on this one, "Trust no one".
While in Bosnia some years ago we had a guy in my unit that carried a million (Or so he said) in cash from three different countries. I know there was US and Croatian Kuna and I believe the German Mark (This was in 1996). He said totaled, there was a million in the case. He carried it hand cuffed to his wrist to conduct local deals to help the US to their job (Purchase local goods). He used to count it every night and kept good records, I believe he was honest though I could imagine how easy it would be to fake a receipt since they were just written pieces of paper. I'm sure there was a checks and balance system but I was too young in the ranks to be involved in that (I was a SPC at the time).

Texas has had Oil forever, it's easier to store gold than oil.
At least that would be part of my plan,
