talk about price swings

Looks like silver spot will finish the day right where it started, but the volatility in between is something else. Good day to trade paper USLV and DSLV ETFs (3x long and 3x short). image

Maybe the big automatic buy/sell programs went astray.... Didn't seem to parallel in gold as much but there was a bump?
No corresponding event in the dollar index?

Yeah, those 50 cent moves (less than 2%) are really something, especially round-trip, where you end up exactly where you started. woweee, what a rush image

    I was thinking the same.

derryb, I know nil about this. I would think one would have to hit these on the button?

If so what kind of return can you make based on a $1XXXX "investment" assuming you are in and out in this time period? J/C TIA

If you were lucky, you might have been able to buy USLV under 20 and sell for over 21--making about 5%. However, if your emotions got the best of you, ie. silver is going up forever so why sell, you would now be back to your purchase price today. And at a loss tomorrow, and probably a substantial loss next week.

You need to bone up on inverse and leveraged ETFs. Actually it was a $1.45 move down and a $1.85 move back up (during trading hours) trading the ETFs mentioned. The return I locked in by playing it on the way down with one ETF and on the way back up with the other was much greater than 2%. While I didn't quite time the bottom or the returning top It was quite the rush, about $24K worth.

Wow big daddy, throwing around six figure ETF bets and winning them all, quite a playa image

Goodonya mate. Most of us are sitting on a few ounces of physical and making and losing the same fifty bucks on paper, but no actual profits, day after day

The point is there is a place for paper metal in a portfolio and that volatility can be your friend. Both of these elements are often misunderstood by the metal investor.

Captain, I just looked at the chart regarding your "boinged" comment. I would like to explain the reason for that unusual movement, but I honestly have no clue as to why that would happen.

    Dang'dest thing I ever seen.

These recent swings aren't even blink-worthy for someone who was watching the silver market during the ~2011 run up/down when +/- $2 swings were common.
