Its widely reported that Cypriot banks were
A paying extremely high interest rates on deposits
and
B heavily invested in Greek Sovereign debt
I'm not sure if this link will work the way I mean it to you may have to reset to 5 year time frame

look at from 2010 on specifically . There was a bubble being blown and it got popped late Feb 2012 really crushed then re inflated then crushed again.
It seems like upping rates to 10% or more paid on deposits would bring in tons of money to plow into a trade in 2010 . But if you had people locked in at high rates and the underlying bubble popped then how do you pay them?
It would be interesting to find out that goldman or JP morgan was on the other side of their trade while acting as an adviser to them at the same time.
The pin that popped that bubble in Feb 2012? bailout 2012
