Ebay's bid retraction policy question?

I have a bidder who performed an invalid bid retraction. He did it this morning before the 12 hour or less restriction, and used a bogus excuse (can't contact seller). Now my item is really cheap with almost 12 hours to go. If I pull the auction down, will I still have to pay the early ending fee, even though the integrity of the auction has been compromised?

I'm thinking if you contact Ebay support, they will work with you given the circumstances. IMO
  • I 2nd Baez578 idea, eBay support is the way to go. Actually I cant think of a valid reason to bid retract. How often does someone say they entered the wrong amount and proceed to enter the correct amount? 1 in 1000. They should be required to call eBay to retract a bid.

I dont think you can even end the item early at this point without Ebays assistance. Perhaps you could accidentaly bid on the item.

Bobby - if its a cheap item, no one is probably looking at the bid history, anyway. Why go through the hassle? Just let it run.
Looking for rare Randy Moss rookies and autos, as well as '97 PMG Red Football cards for my set.
  • Block the bidder and let the auction run. Due to a recent change, ebay will charge you the final amount if you pull the auction with a bid. I know why they do it but I don't like it when you pull an auction early because of some key listing error/omission and get charged for it.
  • Sound the same as what I ran into recently. Had an items in auction Bidder was high bidder for about 3 days. Day the auction was going to end, they retracted the bid(s) (Entered wrong amount Yeah right!), which then went to the underbidder, and dropped the price from $35 to $10.. Auction ended at $22, while all others of the same card were ending in the $40 range..

I just blocked the bidder from bidding on anything of mine going forward. It sucks but that is the rules Ebay set forth for us.

Using this, someone could just get all the items they want for cheap. That's absurd. I think if you have late bid retractions like that, you should have the option to cancel the auction (even after it has ended) and relist it.

If he did it outside of the 12 hour or less restriction, then you don't have any recourse. Good luck.

    Card in question

The SGC case kills it, as PSA examples sell for $70-$120, even with centering as bad as this one.
  • I wouldnt worry with 7 hours to go imageimage

It doesn't matter anyways, even if ebay forced him to keep his bid, as there is no penalty for non paying bidders.
Buyers/bidders can pretty much do what they want with sellers having no recourse.
