That's what he says, but that must not be the real reason. He had it graded by ACA, and they ALSO did not allow him to be present when they graded it. He says that at the 14:47 mark of this video.
Also halarious you caught that. IM sure thats why this show asked them why dont you send it to the top graders? And he gave a poor exuse showing his true intentions.
Someone say this has value so I didnt fail at this easy money attempt.
Money? Anyone? I turned down 10 large for this card because I wanted more. And I was like damn.

And to justify my reasoning on them just wanting money. They tried to sell it a few times on ebay with no authentication other than there own word. Starting bid at like 100,000.00 for what has been proven to be a fake card.. And not letting the top grading companies look at it in person makes you think..
And if someone used the race card to say thats why this Honus cant be accepted as genuine . Then that is just sad. To end this story all you need to do is send the card to a professional in this industry who has authenticated many of these particular cards. And to use an excuse not to do so, and then go back on your word and let a Joe blow grade it.. Not sure what the word Im looking for here. Doesnt seem right.
Card should be destroyed and let the ghost tell the next story on how it's real. Sell the ashes with another current copy fake as genuine whatever you think this card is, examples.
Also one last rant.
If they disagree with the curent auth. of this show. Then they need to bite the bullet and send it to SGC and or PSA. no excuses anymore at this point......

From a press release signed off on by Edwards himself:
"A Matter of Race and Class:
The world of sports memorabilia collecting is largely dominated by wealthy white men. Enter into the mix, two working-class African American men, one of which has worked in a family-owned rubbish business part time, a good portion of his adult life, and from that experience became an ardent collector of all sorts of memorabilia - from comic books and iconic LIFE magazines, to Pokémon cards and pop culture collectibles - all meticulously catalogued and crated.
"Why is it so unbelievable given all the years my cousin (John) has been collecting that he wouldn't come across a valuable baseball card? One of our appraisers, Bob Connelly, said that if he had blonde hair and blue eyes there would be no doubt," says Ray Edwards. Cobb and Edwards have been accused of theft - no charges were ever filed, and the police have cleared their names. They have had racial slurs hurled at them on the Internet baseball memorabilia message boards; they have been accused of attempting to pass along counterfeit merchandise. There have been home invasions at gun point, and a bankruptcy filing by Edwards and a mild stroke suffered by Cobb. Yet despite the decade of insults to their character and personal set-backs, Cobb and Edwards remain unfazed and unbossed.
There have been supporters along the way, such as antiques dealer, and appraiser Bob Connelly of Binghamton, New York. Connelly was the first to speak out - and on national television about the racism the cousins were experiencing because they were not part of the sports memorabilia establishment. Connelly held an unsuccessful auction of the T206 Honus Wagner Card, and held the card in his safe for 5 years before relinquishing it back to Cobb and Edwards just this year."

I know some of the parties involved and this is hilarious! There was an episode of Bryant Gumbel HBO Real Sports that featured this insanity - you guys should track down that and watch it for added yucks.
Oh, me! I'm going to be chuckling to myself the rest of the night. I always wondered what the next chapter in this crazy pathetic saga was and now I do.
It's like they know a little to be dangerous but to any real collector these guys are clueless.
<< <i>Just listening to the first 5 minutes of this Edwards guy talk is enough for me. Let's see he keeps on forgetting was it the 80s or 90's when they got the card, some guy offered his cousin 10 grand for it, they were watching David Copperfield the "musician", and was told by his cousin he had the same card as Gretzky did on the show to which Edwards believed him because he knew his cousin had collected a lot of older post WWI and WWII cards. Oh yeah the, "we knew the front of the card looked totally different then other T206 cards but the back had the correct factory number".

<< <i>The card was kept at the auctioneer for 5 years wow those guys must have really trusted that person. The show should have went to that autenticator with the results and asked them why they called it real. That would make good for interesting TV. >>
LOL - either that or they wouldn't/couldn't come up with the cash to bail it out.
One thing that made no sense is when Edwards was describing how his cousin got the card.
He claimed his cousin was a hard working man who had little $$ but came across the Wagner at a garage sale. He negotiated with the owner to buy it for several thousand & that his cousin had no clue what it was when he bought it.
How many hard working people living a modest lifestyle would fork over thousands of dollars on something they know nothing about?
Most black guys I know are into Lebron ect & have never heard of Honus Wagner, let alone having the desire to fork over big money for a pre-war taboco card they know nothing about.
My main animosity to these idiots is professional: as a licensed appraiser these bozos personify every disgruntled layman who "knows more than I do" and who gave ME a hard time when their poor decisions and/or lack of foresight came back to bite them in the dupa. Sure, buddy, you watched a Storage Wars marathon and now you're qualified to debate me on valuation theory.
Go for it.....
