<< <i>SELEUCID KINGS, ANTIOCHOS VIII 121-96 BC
Obverse: NO LEGEND; Radiate head right
Reverse: BASILEWS ANTIOCOU EPI-FANOU to left and right of eagle standing left on thunderbolt, sceptre over shoulder. Usually with date in exergue.
Mint:Antioch Minted: Circa 192 BC
Dia: 18 mm Wt: 4.23 gm Orient: 12/12
Ref: BMC 25-28; Hoover HGC 1212, SNGIs-2501
VF-nVF Grade: A most attractive strike of Antiochos VIII. A bit off center, but still strong detail and a obverse that pops. A stunning example. >>
Stunning indeed. Priced at less than twenty bucks, I couldn't pull the trigger on this one fast enough. Compare it to this one, which I paid $75-80 for, pre-NGC.
So yes, I'll be putting an $18-ish coin into a $35+ slab, you betcha. Why? Just because. Went off to NGC the other day.
This one, despite poor centering (which is a plus on modern coins like your US pieces, but a bit of a minus on ancients), has a lot of character. At 14 bucks, I simply couldn't pass it up, either. In hand, it had a neat beveled flan, nice and chunky. Off it goes for some pricey plastic, too, just for fun.

No shortage of eyecandy here, as usual.
PS- valente151's large cent sure has a lot of nice red for a MS BN coin.
