<< <i>15 cards in these bad boys ! Gum card isn't even bad off. Checklists do not have the DS stamp.
Nope, no Schwarzkopf rookie yet ! >>
It appears BBCE sent you the wrong packs if you were expecting Desert Storm cards. Contact Steve and see if he will throw in an additional pack because of this mixup. Increases your chances of the Schwarzkopf and you might get the Colin Powell rookie too.
Are gum stains on the backs of cards like 1991 topps impossible to remove. Just tried the freezer thing for an hour and a pantyhose but no luck. And now, the iron is heating up. Thought I'd better check with ya'll on that one first. Any alternate option ?
The irony is I already own one in a 10, currently a pop 6! Not a good scan...sorry!
By the way, my packs contained some VERY nice cards, sharp corners, minimal edge chipping. Centering was the only concern, about 25% of cards are about 65/35 or 60/40 left to right.
AWESOME Thread... Thanks for posting your rips guys. This is my favorite set of all time, although I missed the group rip signup to order packs. Just to let everyone know, I am a buyer of any Braves cards you pull from these sets. There is a large contingent of Braves team set collectors in my area and I'm always trying to put together Braves teams sets from Desert Shield. I pay top dollar (above Ebay) for all Braves...commons included. PM me. Thx.
Congrats on the awesome Chipper pull. Too bad on the centering, but still a HUGE hit.
Steve Hart and BBCE never fail to amaze me, great job and I truly appreciate all you do for us here on the boards and myself!
This set has is fantastic in many ways, not only was is produced to show appreciation to our troops overseas, but it was made at a time where many stars crossed paths. I could list on and on the star power: Nolan Ryan, Carlton Fisk, Ripken, Griffey, Maddux, Eddie Murray, Don Mattingly, Ozzie, Wade Boggs, Bo Jackson, Tony Gwynn, George Brett, Rickey Henderson...and the list goes on and on. This is also a special opportunity as there are many Pop 0 PSA 10s that are still out there to be found. Good luck to those who rip!
I'm all about opening packs and usually do, but my desert shield packs are staying sealed. They are to rare imo, especially when they are legit and verified by the best in the business!

The problem is that at this point, the only person who knows that the pack is Desert Shield is you.

Somewhat true, you seen at the beginning of this thread how they will be shipped right?
The packs were shipped in a very cool way. I loved it. That said, there is still nothing that distinguishes it as a DS pack. Fine by me, I am not a pack collector. I never did quite get that side of the hobby, except when it comes to cello pack collecting with your favorite player showing.
Yea, I do find it strange that Steve would go to these lengths to securely package these packs yet he didn't indicate that these are Desert Shield anywhere. I'm definetely going to hold onto the packing slip.
+1 to 1All. Should have had something to say it was a DS pack--think that just slipped by him. Keep the packing slip is right. May also wanna keep copy of the thread page on the DS list.
Opened my pack this morning. Was a real thrill actually. The two coolest cards, sandberg and santiago were the gum and wax cards. Nice centering overall and sharp cards. Very cool. Also got a checklist unfortunately.

Pack 1 had a nice Barry Bonds All-Star.
Pack 2 had a real nice treat:
Sandberg is my guy.

The raw Sandberg looks like it has better centering up and down compared to your 10! Good luck with subbing that.
Congrats on the awesome Chipper pull. Too bad on the centering, but still a HUGE hit.
Always buying Bobby Cox inserts. PM me.
Nice job on the Chipper and Ryno.
That makes the decision to rip a little tougher, but no Ryan, JR, or Cal pulled yet.
I am still ripping one of my packs.

<< <i>is that a light stain on the upper white border on the Sandberg? >>
Yes it is.
Hard to say what would happen upon grading. I have quite a few 10's from 1985 and 1989 Topps with that exact type of stain.
