Counterstamped Chain Cent (not mine). Heritage. Can't say I have seen many of these. Cool piece!

    I give up.

    who bounce stamped it?
  • MsMorrisineMsMorrisine Posts: 38,569 ✭✭✭✭✭
the letters R CUTLER are raised and easily read. Brunk attributes the stamp as C-1188 from New Haven, and notes it is seen on a 1787 Connecticut copper and a 1793 large cent (likely the present coin). No EAC grade assigned

I would like a chain cent even if it were counterstamped.... just a neat old coin... Cheers, RickO

Even beat up and stamped - I wouldn't mind having it - its still got nice detail remaining.

Counterstamping low-grade/damaged coins seems to be one method of increasing their value...otherwise these coins are generally uninteresting!

    ***older thread alert

I realize there are some major rim issues, but does anyone else feel these details are much stronger than 'Good'?

I would have loved to have it except it looks like someone tried to engrave the date..... if it weren't for that! image

Yep....would still own it and enjoy it..... will find one someday... Where I live has houses and buildings dating back to the late 1600's... so, when I MD, I am always hoping for a chain cent.... maybe this year...image Cheers, RickO

Very interesting but I'm sure someone paid far more for it than I would have paid.

Severe rim damage in addition to the counterstamp. It's not a coin I would want.
