A pleasant surprise from a junk silver deal - 1928-S Walking Liberty

BustHalfBrianBustHalfBrian Posts: 4,192 ✭✭✭✭
Purchased this pretty gal in a bulk deal of 90% that consisted mostly of Walkers, the majority being '30s and '40s dates, so I wasn't really expecting to find any better dates.

Grade her if you so desire image

LOL...I always offer my opinion before reading everyone else's thoughts and thought the same after I saw everyone else's opinions. I don't do the series and use the GTG threads as a learning tool for myself, seeing how I do just shooting from the cuff.

I was apparently way off this time. image Lucky for you I don't work at PCGS.

Here's a VF25 from ATS, albeit in a somewhat older holder:

Saaaaay, that 1919-D looks awfully familiar!!! image

Had not seen a decent mid-grade circulated example until I ran into that one, and really none since. Glad I was able to add that to my collection! image

Oh, and I think that 28-S in the OP's picture is a F-15 all day long. A very nice pickup!
  • Sure looks like a vf-20 to me.

The 1923S to 1933S Walkers are very under rated.

I once received a 38D in a junk silver deal. I called the guy and returned the coin. He was very happy. I think I made a friend for life that day.

    VF25....Cheers, RickO
  • Nice find and probably an underrated date/grade. Just shy of VF for me though, but I'd give it a F18 image

Edited to add: Just noticed this thread was super old, haha. Oh well...

    << <i>Nice coin, would slot well into my Walking Libs from junk silver Dansco, a nice upgrade over the the current example;

    image

And yes, all came from junk silver, even the '34. image

You should definitely start one if you haven't yet!

EDIT: Actually that '23-S came from DennisH as a gift for helping him out with something. image >>

These are fun sets! I did a few sets from Indian cents through Peace dollars using the old Whitman bound albums as the holders. Sadly, I needed to sell them all to pay for college ... but the sets were a blast to put together! I even "cherried" a 3-legged Buffalo nickel!
