    Generally accurate, but I believe that the New York Stock Exchange had stopped using eighths by the time that was written.

    There was a 5-franc piece with a New Orleans counterstamp, c. 1830s, I believe it was in an ANR auction a few years ago.

    The article mentioned the Charles II of England Half Crown coin.

    I didn't know that these circulated in America.

    Though struck in the 1660s, worn copies circulated in the U. S.
    They are about the size of the half dollar.

    The French 5 franc pieces were legal tender at 93 cents though not all that many circulated in this country.
