Maybe he's confused with that other Florida coin grading company with the similar three letters, the one where you do indicate what grades you'd like to receive for the coins you submitted.
The guy is either a nut, or you're being trolled because you indicated it could upgrade.
When I sell certified coins on eBay, the only grade I mention is the one on the holder. That avoids misunderstandings and returns.

If he's almost 70 as stated, I hope any kids are well out of school! This thread just made my Friday. I'd like to belly up for one of Tom's stiff drinks!
This reminds me of my mother inlaw. She's getting up there in years 86, and she calls my wife the other night a little angry because her batteries had died in her remote control. My wife suggested to just change the batteries and the mother inlaw replies "but the package said they were good until 2015"

i commend you for having much more patience than i would have, he probably would have been blocked when he asked me for the weight of the coin and definately after he asked me why i graded it VF35. the guy is either too old or too stupid to be collecting coins
regardless of how many posts I have, I don't consider myself an "expert" at anything

Incredibly unlikely!

<< <i>Only thing NGC does, they check the coin to make sure it is real, put your grade on it, then return it to you. >>
Maybe the old chap is a really good grader and they always agree with him so he thinks it's his grade.
I had that thought too
