So how is this a group rip if (as an example) justin's shoebox bought every pack of one of the boxes? No offense to Justin, but doesn't that kind of defeat the spirit of these things? And is the OP just flipping the box or something? What gives?

It was my decision to allow participants to take as many packs as they desired, it makes it easier for me to collect money and ship packs. I have organized 2 of these "rips" in 4 days and we have done 4 boxes in that time. Hopefully there will be many many more to come.

I allowed Justin to take the box, it wasn't getting as much interest as the other two and it worked out well.

<< <i>And is the OP just flipping the box or something? What gives? >>

No. Me and all of the participants of the rip split the costs evenly.

Next time you do one of these you need to make clear that this is not a group rip from bbce but just you selling your packs. Otherwise you are going to ruffle a lot of feathers. Also, it belongs in the BST forum.

I agree. Why would anyone be upset. I mean the OP started a thread called another 70's group rip asking to pm for the details. Then he got four guys plus himself in on 108 packs from three boxes.
I am hoping to hold a group rip soon too. Right now I got three spots on hold for me, myself, and I. Not sure if I got room for anyone else but if I do I will start a thread asking to pm for details of the
    packs we won't be ripping.

"Group Rips" on this forum are generally understood to be BBCE product rips where Steve is mailing out the packs and risk to the buyer is pretty much non-existent. The "group rips" have been promoted in SMR and other channels bringing in new members to participate. A new member could easily confuse a BBCE rip where the risk is nil to one of your rips where the risk is unknown. Add, to that the secretive nature of your post and you can see how this could easily be a set-up for a scam. I don't think yours is but I am sure you can see the problem. Anyone can start posting these "group rips" and I don't think we necessarily want that.

I still have yet to receive a PM from you. I would be more than happy to explain the situation if you would let me. I am not advertising this as a BBCE group rip and I make the risks very clear to the participants.

I personally moved my "rips" over to the B/S/T board when similar concerns were raised.

Jason, your effort is appreciated by many. Just be careful, as there are very few sources of vintage
unopened that can hold a candle to BBCE.

Candle or not -- are there many sources left out there? Fritsch? Probstein's consignments?

I did say "very few", not NONE.

As for the source for this latest "70s rip", I have personally had to return supposedly "unopened" vintage to
them because it was both tampered with and not what they thought it was. That does not mean that this
rip is bad, but I know the source does not have the proper expertise to authenticate what they are offering.
Based on their history I stay away.

As for the others you mention, Fritsch material has a provenance if you are willing to pay their price. As for
Rick he runs a great, customer-oriented business and I have great respect for him. However, I was not aware
that he has any recognized expertise in the area of vinatge unopened. I would certainly bid on items Rick
lists that have already been certified by a known source of expertise, but there have also been items he's
listed in the past that I know to be illegitimate.

As I said originally, you have to be careful. The majority of vintage unopened opportunities that can be found
publicly today are, IMO, not legitimate.

Understand. Wasn't trying to indicate you were wrong -- I was wondering who else was out there. I know of very very few.
  • Has anyone here bought '70s cello or rack boxes from Fritsch? Just curious if the box(es) were fresh from case, or were made from various boxes with stars pulled.
  • 1all1all Posts: 511 ✭✭✭
On a serious note. I don't know for sure what the boxes are. But, in general, I'd think that the more board members that participate in these types of "Group Rips", the less likely it is that there would be an intra-cu bidding war over the items and a potentially lower strike price. Just something to think about.

At this point, I really don't want to know what the boxes are because I don't want to feel bad about bidding on them.
