<< <i>Had a huge poppage today - mostly 73's. From a wonderful raw ebay lot. Here are the highlights:

edit: also subbed a few of the coaches variations, but nothing exciting. Had a couple that I thought were "light pale" that ended up slabbed as "orange" - although they were way less orange than every other copy I have... how pale are the pale variations? >>
The 10's of Alou and Knowles are great finds, Mike....
Collecting 1962-1985 Topps Baseball with an emphasis on the 70's!
yah, as the under-bidder, if I had any idea that it was in peril I probably would have bumped the bid another 100.00 or so...that card is IMPOSSIBLE to find in a 9
Hopefully the sale will shake a few more out of the bushes - that is a beast of a card. BTW anyone know who won the huge 1977 psa 10 lot from Mile High? I bid up to a point then just didn't have the cash to keep pushing...regardless, someone got a pretty good deal in the end.
1976 poppage 919 cards graded with 62 PSA 10s for a .067 hit rate, about 80% were 9s. The problem is that I did not get a huge number of hits among the low pops, they are low pops in this year for a reason lol. I did hit a 9 with a Stennett RB (finally got one!) - I haven't checked to see which 10s might be low pops but as expected many of the tens were the usual team cards. - As usual there were grader differences. Highest hit rate was 20/200 psa10s, lowest hit rate was 6/200 psa 10s. Cards were distributed by number so the hit rate should have been relatively consistent - as everyone tells me, time to crack and resubmit!
Nice work, Henry! Those results also indicate why it's usually best to break up a very large sub into smaller parts, as some subs are definitely graded tougher than others. I'd resubmit 10 of the most undergraded cards (in your opinion) from the tougher sub and see what upgrades (if any) you realize upon doing so.
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
I just went treasure hunting through my 76s I haven't looked at in a year or more and graded 32. Hit 5 10s, including Concepcion and Foster, so it pays to go back every now and then. I tried to hit an oliva 8 instead hit 3 9pds... Also hit a pair of 78 10s out of 13 cards, same idea.
I see you decided to add all the team sets for the 70's mintmoondog. Very impressive I have to admit. I had to see what happened when my number 1 1977 Topps Brewers set suddenly was knocked down to 2nd. After looking at Buzztroops sets I realized it was you and that I have no chance of ever retaking that top spot. I bow down to you sir. Keep up the good work!!
Nice Bishop! That Clemente IA looks gradeable. I might need a couple of those 73 variations (by far the most irritating set of variations I have run into).

Sorry Jeff! I have been creating teamsets while watching my Tigers. I figure what the heck, I'll increase my odds of winning that Cracker Jack Mathewson card. The problem is that now I have pages and pages of garbage sets to sort through. The classic is the 3 card Mike Cosgrove basic set (good grief!), and the two card Miguel Cabrera rookie set (come'on a two card set really? How can two cards be considered a set?)
Finally! After almost 7 years of uneven progress I have completed my 1977 PSA set. The final card was the Tommy John which drove me crazy for years...I think I was the underbidder on that card at least 3 times and never gave it much thought as it was not one of the low pops...suddenly it was the last card remaining, and of course, then disappeared from the auctions. It is at 9.34 and I hope to get it to 9.50 someday but am not in a rush. The great news is that according to the PSA registry this set is worth 5,881.00! Wow!
Yup, I'm gonna sell off a large part of my collection (let's call it the Obama end-of-the-world firesale ) - My 1971 set will be sold by PWCC next month. Sending that set off was extremely painful. The crazy thing is that I was only 15 cards away from finally completing the entire decade! I'm going to keep a large number of my cards, however, - including my minis but I need room in my house as my cards were taking up 3-4 complete rooms. I'll probably get back in 2016 depending on world events. For the next spell I am going to sit on the sidelines and catch my breath.
I have been collecting baseball cards since 1957 and have experienced a lot of presidents and world events in that time. I would never be hesitant to be critical of any president of either party but sure would not let some politician affect my card collecting .

there was one psa10 of note #33 Bill North pop 1; I'm slowing gaining more respect for the 10s that go through the bay
