When NOT to upgrade, but to instead spend the money on something non-numismatic

Case in point.
I spend far too much time in my own little world, and a great deal of that time and thought is spent on numismatics.
This is not necessarily a bad thing... in moderation.
But 'tis far better to try to achieve an equilibrium; a balance, between one's hobby and life.

Hoard the keys.

Wise words.
RMR: 'Wer, wenn ich schriee, hörte mich denn aus der Engel Ordnungen?'
CJ: 'No one!' [Ain't no angels in the coin biz]
I remember threads where others talk about spending half or more of their disposable income on the coin hobby and can't understand why other people don't spend more. There is nothing wrong with having one hobby consume most of one's money, but there is nothing wrong with those that choose a much lower percentage and enjoy the hobby for what it is. This forum tends to attract the enthusiast, folks that are almost all consumed by the coin hobby and can't understand why someone with greater means doesn't "step their game up" so to speak and open their wallets for the more expensive coins. The amount spent in the story on sending the child to the camp, might literally be lunch money for some of the high rollers on the forum, so each person has amounts that mean something to them.
Balance. Moderation. These are good things.
My own girl (same age) goes to a circus camp in the wilds of N. Cal....I recall the first time dropping her off (10 yrs. old), up on this crazy ranch on or near the mendo/humboldt county line,
several hours from home, in the thick of a notorious region of lawlessness and off the grid, black market wierdness...I spent two weeks writing letters and biting my nails until it was time to go pick her up.
Pick up day includes an all day event for the parents, highlighted by performances and shows of the various skills the kids have focused on during their stay....trapeze, tightrope, unicycleing, improv theater etc etc etc...all MC'd by Wavy Gravy. It was incredible, and very touching actually...
Stuff like this is why my numismatis focus trends toward unraveling the various skills of the vest pocket collector ( not dealer..), since I like to be able to use the collection for things that come along in life without taking a bath every time !
Some family members still don't know that I have a coin shop. They're real active on Facebook, though. I'm only reminded how boring "coins" are, in the scope of life outside of here.
