    I have long been skeptical of the 'pie crimper' theory behind these modified Large Cents, that is until I saw your example. What a neat piece, and somehow it just seems logical that it would be used for that purpose when seeing it attached to a handle like that. I have never seen a 'complete' example like that, with handle attached. Thanks for sharing that.

    image That seems to be quite an unusual design with that wood tang sticking down on the other side of the wheel. Must have worked well based on the wear.

    reminds me of using coins as an electrical fuse
    but without the danger

    alternate uses for coins perhaps

    It does make a lot more sense attached to the handle. Has anyone actually tried using one of these to crimp a pie crust?

    Same here. I too thought the attribution was mostly apocryphal until now. This is the first time I have seen one attached to the original handle.
