STAY HEALTHY!

Doug

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

Is this a legit auction where someone might pay for the card?

• The brand is twenty years old now and has a pretty hardcore following.
Big Fan of: HOF Post War RC, Graded RCs
WTB: PSA 1 - PSA 3 Centered, High Eye Appeal 1950's Mantle
• the high bidder wont pay guaranteed. Might as well send it to bgs get a 9.5 and let them auction it for him
• lol You could probably get a 1/1 rookie auto of a QB who has won multiple Super Bowls for a third of that or even less.

That said, I don't believe this is a legit sale for a second.

This auction does something that, for whatever reason, bugs the crap out of me:
This may be the only time you get to own, let alone see, this amazing card
The wording on this is backwards. It should be "only you see, let alone own". The "let alone" phrase should always be the more rare/exclusive/etc.

[/nitpick]

11 different bidders over $35k. If it's a hoax, it's a pretty elaborate one.
• no way in hell that's legit.

hmmm lets see, I could have a NM 52 Mantle AND a PSA10 Jordan RC or an shiny new Andrew Luck RC, tough choice there.

If there's no shill bidding involved, I'm not even going to take a stab at deciphering this. My head will start hurting.

you'll never be able to outrun a bad diet

• Not even close to getting paid
Greatly overpaying for a 2000 Fleer Showcase Tom Brady PSA 10

Some people (including you) will never understand the market for 1/1s. And while I agree that comparing Mantle RC prices to almost any card is generally a good baromter, the truth is that anyone on this board could pick up a 52 Mantle in almost any grade we wanted online or at any given regional show at any given time. Is it desirable? Of course.... Is it liquid? Definitely. Is it hard to find? Not at all.
Successful transactions with: thedutymon, tsalems1, davidpuddy, probstein123, lodibrewfan, gododgersfan, dialj, jwgators, copperjj, larryp, hookem, boopotts, crimsontider, rogermnj, swartz1, Counselor

Always buying Bobby Cox inserts. PM me.

I try and follow modern (mostly just basketball and baseball) so I think I've got a pretty good understanding of it. and I understand that Playoff Contenders is very popular with set collectors, but set collectors don't generally chase 1/1's , and IDK I guess $40,000 with 3 days left seems extremely high to me compared to what other 1/1's of star rookies from other popular sets have sold for. who knows maybe I'm off here.

I don't think its a stretch that these prices are legit, but I'll admit there are some red flags here. who knows...

Was this card dropped face down in the parking lot? At least the seller was kind enough to post pics of the mangled mess.
• Dpeck100Dpeck100 Posts: 10,912 ✭✭✭✭✭
Looking at the bid list I think there is a very strong chance you could get someone to pay at least $25,000 for this card.

Maybe higher.

This auction may not see a transfer of the card but it certainly brings to light a very highly valued current card.

• I buy mostly modern packs these days and I cant believe this.image

Congrats to the seller if this closes and he gets paid.

What I don't get is what makes this card any different than any of the zillion other 1/1 cards. Is this lucks only 1/1 card from 2012?
Scans of most of my Misc rookies can be found <a target=new class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://forums.collectors.com/m...y&keyword1=Non%20major">here

I have never seen any card come close.

Of course I am one of them and have zero intention of bidding.

FYI that Luck sold for 11K a couple months ago. which also lends credence to the auction in OP being shilled since Superfractor Auto's generally go for more than Championship Ticket Auto's, sure as hell not less than half.
• I think as a group, we are the most educated collectors you will find anywhere. I do not include myself or any other one person, but as a group and all that specialize in certain fields, we are a strong unit. Many of us do not beleive this item will be paid for. I think it is safe to say that none of us would pay any thing near this price for this card, no matter what our financial situation would be.

BUT, time and time again, it has been proven that there are huge buyers of 1/1 cards out there. It seems that nobody knows who these people are, but they seem to exist. Who knows, maybe that is the direction our hobby is headed for big money in the future? I personally do not think so, but I have been wrong on a couple of occasions in the past.

Personally, I would pay more for a high grade common from many pre-war sets than what I would pay for this card, but...

Good luck to the seller getting paid. Would I ever in a million years spend that kind of money on a one year player? Nope. Does that mean there aren't hundreds if not thousands of people who will? Of course not. Just because it's not up our alley doesn't make it any less legit for those bidding.

" Many of us do not beleive this item will be paid for. I think it is safe to say that none of us would pay any thing near this price for this card, no matter what our financial situation would be."

I always thought it would be great press for a card company to just go crazy and buy or bid insaine amounts on there key product that year. Bringing hype to there product to out beat the other company. Numbers like this become the buzz of the hobby, and people will be standing outside the door next year to get the new product in hopes of pulling a 50,000.00-100,000.00 card. And if whoever is making these bids(if shill or legit I dont know) but if they dont pay they are stuck with the ebay bill at worse. But this is better than any billboard you can buy in my eyes. Wish there was a way we could see if these do get paid for.
Crazy numbers for sure.
• Crazier things have happened but yes great press

How would you determine such a thing?

The only way to do determine this using eBay would be to look at the sellers feedback they leave and receive.

No Sale

No suprise to most.
• With these high prices, I decided to try my Luck out. So I picked these up at my local card shop. Decent prices. There is a little ding, I think, in the corner of the Chrome which I did not see when I bought it.

• Shocker that it wasn't paid for... image

The fact the he relisted it at auction is insane. It'll be relisted over and over til the price gets low enough where someone who wants it, will fork over the $$. I don't see this passing the Luck super auto in value.

He should have gotten a professional auction house to sell it. A lot easier that way.

I dont get why people are bidding crazy amounts with no intention of paying. Whats the meaning behind it? Its up to $20,000 again. I wish people overbid like this on my items!

Yes superfractor autos set the market so anyone thinking this card brings over 16,500 is smoking something. Also this card is HARMED that is why they don't beckett auction it.
