<< <i>Glad you got that DDR graded Will. Also, I agree with the 66 despite others online grading attempts. Even if it were graded a 67 it would still seem right to me.
>>
Frankly, I wouldn't have been surprised with 67 either.
If you blow up a quarter to the size of your monitor, any gem is going to look chewed up. The fields on this piece ar exceptionally clean, the luster is booming, and one can imagine if you scaled it down to life-size how many of the marks melt away. I don't think the coin got any gifts for rarity.
If someone thinks their clad MS65 is nicer, then I encourage them to have similar images taken for comparison. >>
Yes, the luster of the fields is probably what propelled this coin to where it is. Seems that modern regular strike clad quarters are hard to find with attractive luster.
Gold and silver are valuable but wisdom is priceless.
Asked the seller of the AU58 coin if he could tell me what part of the country it came from. He told me central Florida. Someone on these boards stated that an AU example was being offered for sale at the FUN show. That was a year or three ago? I'd bet that this is the same coin.
It's gonna be many years before the true rarity of these are known.
"The seller of the AU58 coin ended the auction early. I would guess he received an offer he couldn't refuse?"
This has become almost the norm in eBay. List a piece true auction, no reserve and don't like the way it's heading in the 11th hour? End it early! No honor at all. I'll be blocking this seller, and I encourage you all to do the same. Integrity shouldn't be for sale.

To prevent abuses like that, doesn't Ebay now charge fees for listings, with bids, that are ended early?
WAY overpriced! In a no reserve auction it's a $2k-3k coin imho. >>
I agree. Centralized doubling = little interest >>
I disagree. With doubling like what is on the 2009-D quarter dollar FS-801, it doesn’t matter if it is centralized or next to the rim, there will be more then just a “little interest” in this variety. But in a MS-64 condition, if it was in a no reserve auction I would estimate a finial price tag between $900 - $1,200 only.

And now an AU58 example.

For those interested, I'll be relisting my MS64 at some point in the future.

Almost a year later and remains only 2 graded.
