An old-line member on my old dealer-to-dealer network reported this this morning:
"FYI: Had a lady come in with 3 - 10 Gram Gold Bars in Plastic. Marked
"umicore 10g FEINGOLD 999.9". All weighed less than 10 grams in plastic and
where slightly magnetic... using (a) strong magnet!"

I found gold plated bars on eBay just now. They are in plastic, not the same plastic of the original ones (which also Degussa uses)
The auction clearly says "layered/plated".

That's what I wanted to point out (even though I didn't...)

There are tons of "Gold" bars up for auction on eBay indicating "layered or plated" showing the same finesse: 999.9. Most are from the UK and all do indicate that they are plated or layered. Just do a search under: German gold bar.
The Umicore 10 g plated bar has been around for years....not sure who is producing the plated ones though.
"RE:Bad gold bars
We had a lady in with a credit suisse 50 gram bar
a bit off color and only 31 grams
She said she sold 4 of them already"
