Doing my first card show since about 1995

I got married in 1993 and had a daughter in 1997 and a son in 2001 which had taken me away from doing shows. Now I have decided to try them again. The only problem is that I do not know what sells and how to proceed setting up. I have three of those AllState showcases that are 2 feet wide each. Two will be cards from the 1950's to the 1970's in various conditions. One case will have memorilbilia like Salada coins, Armour coins, Koufax keychain, and Mantle PM10 Stadium Pins. That takes up 6 feet of the 8 feet I have. The other two feet will have a large wooden box that is four rows of cards wide. This will have higher end star cards or rookies alphabetically like Boggs, Brett, Yount, Shaq, Gretzky, Montana, etc. Next to that will fit a shoebox of two rows of the same players but lower end at either .25 or .50. I will have a small assortment of unopened packs like 83 Fleer, 84 Hockey......... I do not have a lot of the modern shiny stuff. Most of what I have is through the mid 1980's. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Bob

Sounds like your good, but might want to pick up some modern boxes to display as well. I always see kids opening modern packs at shows because they know the players better compared to the packs from the 80s.

  • Good luck with the show.
I'm doing one soon and was wondering the best way to do the 25/50/1.00 cards? It's not economical to put them in card savers or top loaders... How do you guys do it?

When is the show? I will come up and check out your stuff. My son and I go to that one two or three times a year, mostly when I need supplies.

Good luck at the show. I hope it goes well for you! A couple things that helped me are:
    1. Take windex wipes to clean your cases. They can look pretty bad by the end of a show from all the fingerprints
    2. Body bags are great if it is a 2-3 day show and you have to leave your cases set up. You can lock them and not worry
    3. If you have high dollar cards, you might look into accepting credit cards. If you have a smartphone, there's an app called "square" that is really easy.

If I can answer any other questions I'd be happy to help. I was in your same shoes about 4 years ago.

    Good luck!

Swartz, I moved here in 1995, at that time the show was at the Armory on rt. 206, it's a lot smaller now but it's the same show.

If you want to have a good show then do your research on Ebay and VCP and make sure everything you're selling is priced at the lowest possible prices, and then put up a big flashy EVERYTHING HALF PRICE sign. Be prepared to negotiate below that for the Ebay resellers in sweatpants.
