Would need to see the coin in hand before commenting about its color.

I thought you'd be pleased that one.

Glad to see the luster is there. Nice coin.

The coin looks all there for a 58 so you could try to get it into any brand plastic you might prefer.
Looks like it was dipped and has re-toned, but very market acceptable.
    Nice coin.

Nice pick-up image Maybe a light dip long ago but she has retoned nicely.

Alot nicer than than usually seen if she has been dipped.

    Congrats on a nice piece.

If the color is ok then it matters little if it's a 55 or 58. Nice eye appeal. I think PCGS is tighter on holdering unusual and vibrant colored early 19th century type.
In any case, worth a heck of a lot more in a PCGS holder.....and stickered. From the amount of luster left I'd say 55. But from wear alone looks more like a 58.

Much more market acceptable as non-ANACS.

Thanks for the comments guys. I don't know about the dipped comments. It's got that neon electric blue look from old album toning but I am no expert. I have had several early(39-44) high AU Seated halves that were PCGS graded with this exact look. In any case I love it and that's all that matters to me!! As a side note I've been told it was graded September 15th 1989.

    Nice coin. >>

Where does it look " dipped and has retoned" and how can you be certain? >>

    Hey Realone
It looks dipped and re-toned. No one particular spot, but the nice blue color, which is really very nice in my opinion, did not form that way over such a large surface area on it's original skin. These nice vibrant colors are commonly seen on the skin of a coin post-dip.

I see no reason Manorcourtman why that wouldn't get into a PCGS holder.
    It's a very nice coin.

If it's truly neon and electric, it is a great coin. If 'muddy' blue, well then...

While you state this as fact, I do not believe it is that cut-and-dry.

Early 19th century coins with such vibrant color more often than not got that way from being dipped and then placed into albums.

But I'll also add that the toning pattern and coloration is quite similar to my old MS65 1838 RE half. It had been stored in a sulfur 2X2 paper envelope for decades and
got some glorious blue-greens on the obverse with russet in the deeper areas. The reverse had some vibrant yellow/orange/magenta and blues. No doubt that was original. Sad
thing is when presented for stickering I was told they were "unsure" about the color. The OP's 1837 could have spent a few decades in a similar environment and never
been dipped. It's also true that after decades and decades of such storage the coins eventually turn a less desireable deep dark brown/blue coloration. This coin may have
just gotten out of "storage" just in time.

    Hey Kove,
I am not stating this as fact. It is my opinion.

I think some coins from this era Realone can develop beautiful colors on original skin, but I don't this one is such an example.
As RR mentioned, and I agree, many silver coins from this time frame have been dipped and now have a lot of color.
Once again, this is just my opinion looking at this coin on my monitor and seeing what I am seeing.

Wow. Congratulations! Where did you find it, Chris? I was asleep at the wheel again, I guess.

Is the luster all there? I'd cross it and be happy with 55.

Nice to see the coin working out nicely for Manorcourtman. The only sad thing is that another early ANACS gold foil hologram holder is gone. ANACS graded very closely to the
TPG standards of the 1988-1990 at that time so even today, those coins usually more than hold up. Since the coin has obvious wear, it can't be graded any higher than AU58. But
nothing says it can't generate MS60/61 type money in its new holder.

Congratulations on that PCGS 58 grade. You did well. The resale value of your coin is far higher now. I wish I could do as well as you did.
