Raw 1913-S Quarter in XF/AU on eBay - Probable Fake: Got to shut it down!

13-S 25c
Although some of the diagnostics line up, the font looks wrong - The date lines up over the denticles properly and the mint mark appears to be the 302 variety (slightly higher and closer to center). but that font appears bogus to me.. looks very much like the Chinese type font.. The two "1"s in the date are of different girth - they always screw up the serifs on the numbers, although they are getting "better" in their craft - scary .. The numbers are too skinny. It stinks!
Although the coin is "high grade", it will still usually show some weakness on the left side of the reverse (right side of the obverse) looking at the coin .. I think it should be shut down.. Someone may shell out thousands

Definitely a fake.
<< <i>Would you say the date was altered or the whole coin is a fake? >>
The whole coin is fake. The digits in the date have the tell tale look of the Chinese mint, and the fact that the date stands out more strongly than the rest of the design is one of the Chinese hallmarks too.

A split second glance is all it takes to see its bogus.

<< <i>Looks like EBAY pulled it. >>
No, the fact you can still see the auction and the bids were canceled (right down to his $5. starting price) confirms the seller pulled the auction and not eBay.

" I am a full time dealer and have been selling on Ebay since September of 1998, although I have been in business since 1989. I am a Life Member of the ANA (LM-6059) as well as many other state and regional numismatic associations. "
Also gives his name, which I won't copy here. Shouldn't a FT dealer be able to differentiate between real & counterfeit coins?

Yes. It appears that he may have confused another seller with this little gem.
