For the second one: Token... I think? It was minted by the US government, but I don't believe it was minted in rolls to distribute.

For the first one: no idea.

I would call these tokens/medals. Being they are silver makes it nice but I wouldn't consider them only bullion rounds.

The first is a medallion, that appears to have an "A" mint mark that could be Berlin.

The second is a private one ounce round.

first one is a 900 fine medal, second one is a 999 fine silver round :-)

Both are silver rounds and most likely were issued by private mints....I know the German Mint ..Berlin branch .. produces some of their bullion coins including their version of the ASE (Quadrica), but I've never encountered the 1955 Happy New Year one.

1. .900 fine Token - "Good ride in the new year". Funny, that the tucked skier looks like he could be passing methane, which at first glance is how most non-German speakers might translate "fahrt"...

The top one is from the Austrian mint, and would have been sold as a medal or token. The bottom one was privately minted as a 1 ounce silver round.

Hmmm... the first one has somebody bent over and the word "FAHRT" on it.

Specifically, a gute fahrt.

What I call a gute fahrt usually brings a disgusted look from my wife or daughter, so I blame it on the dog.

PS- neat giveaway.

Even if I hadn't come along just too late, I probably deserved to be disqualified for cracking fahrt jokes.
