1863 Double Eagle - need opinion please

A member of the italian forum I am in is asking about two Liberty Double Eagles.
He inherited one 1883-S (which is common) and one 1863 which is more interesting.

Not being an expert, I am seeking for an opinion about the 1863.
It looks real to me but I can't grade it.
What is an approx value?

A least a VF30, due to the obverse.

It looks real and is a better date Type I $20. Hard to judge the surfaces from the photo, but it could be worth anywhere from $3500-7000 or so. It is definitely worth getting slabbed.

Tough to tell about the surfaces from the pictures. Seems to have a little dirt in the denticles and the rays on the reverse. Something about the color though makes me think it may have been cleaned, but it could just be the pictures. I would be a little more generous at an XF40 assuming no cleaning. Probably a range of $3000-$4000 at XF40.
