Great coins are not cheap, and cheap coins are not great!
<< <i>Not a gold expert but I think NGC got it right the first time. Congrats. Pretty coin but to my eye it looks like the surface quality is more 65 than 66. >>
I have to agree. I still love the coin, beautiful color.

I'd buy this one! Those colors are fantastic if it actually looks like that in-hand (not over-juiced photography). As long as the price was right I don't think the assigned grade means to much. A simple grade doesn't tell this coin's story very well. Some are just more interesting than others and this one certainly qualifies. It probalby got a 1 point bump for grade, which is probably about right if you look at it from a market perspective. Hit-wise, it looks 64/65. It's hard to tell about luster, but eye-appeal wise, it's probably fantastic.
Nice upgrade. Pretty coin too. If this upgrade happened in most any other series, it would be a guaranteed score...... But,
Not sure if it will get you any more money. Saints in CAC MS65 fetch almost the same money as generic 66's. CAC 66's are very tough to make. Something tells me this won't go CAC 66. If it does it's a $800-$1,100 score. If not, maybe a $100 score at most or you might even have lost money. A few too many ticks and high point scuffs imo to get a sticker. The stickering rate on 65's and 66's runs in the range of 5-15%. It's not easy at all. The market recognizes this and pays $3600-$3800 for 66's. Generic 66's trade like stickered 65's. I don't think the color on this will negate the other slight weaknesses. After examining a group of 115 nice MS65 saints before they went to CAC, I have a decent feeling for how tough they are. Only 6 got stickered.
$2270/$2490 is the current spread from generic 65's to generic 66's. It's pretty small. CAC 65's are bringing nearly as much or more than non stickered 66's as odd as that may seem to some. CAC gem gold is very hot and still quite scarce. Non-stickered generic $20's are essentially perceived as next grade down with a +. There are just not that many stickered 65's and 66's out there....but a literal ton of unstickered coins. The coin is pretty enough that maybe it gets a nice "eye appeal" premium. But that would apply regardless of whether it was 65 or 66. CAC 65's were worth $2500-$2600 last I checked. It really comes down to the fact if JA thinks this is a $3600 coin or one closer to $2500. It's his money on the line. There aren't that many classic series where a sticker adds 45% value to a coin.

Got it back from "where"?
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

Isn't the seller a CAC evaluator? Perhaps the OP will have better resticker prospects at 66 than expected!
