Still Chasing White Whale...

I started collecting coins 7 years ago. Still haven't received silver as pocket change. I just sorted through a box of change from when I was a bus boy 18 years (holy crap!) ago and didn't find any either. I did end up with about 20 pounds of copper pennies though. Took forever to sort by hand... for some reason I looked for a more efficient way afterwards. Damn it if I didn't find instructions on making a simple comparator....

Anyway, how often do you guys find silver in your pockets? Am I just unlucky or are they nearly out of circulation?

Maybe once a year, and it's a dime, if that. Yes, they are nearly out of circualtion, especially since the silve run the last few years. Everyone is "urban mining" and circulating silver is drying up.

Buy a couple boxes of rolled halves from your local bank every couple weeks and start mining for some. Sooner or later you'll strike Ag.

The wife is a cashier and has brought 2 dimes
home that were silver in the last two monthes
She has the eye and the ear for it though and
she says these finds are kinda slim latley.

Amount of time spent looking no longer worth the effort. I would rather spend the time at something more productive.
But I really now have a very limited sources for rolls of coins out here in retirement land by the lake.

I am a coin roll hunter and I find an average of approximately 1 dime per $250 searched. Quarters are not worth searching. Halves can be a lot of miss, but then when you hit you can hit home runs like I did almost a couple of years ago:

About 3 years ago, I received in change an early 1900s Barber Dime. It was well worn and super thin!

My sister got a F Barber quarter in change last year, I'm sure it was a collection theft (kid or whatever). My sister didn't even know what it was...some stuff could be hiding in plain sight with all the state quarters, parks, etc. nobody noticed a Barber.

My better 2/3rds is always getting silver in change from Tim Hortons.

Recently, she told me they gave her a counterfeit $1 Bill in change. I then said, let me see it...She said Oh, I wasn't going to get stuck with it so I gave it back to them...

She said it looked like this:

I rarely (never) find silver in my pocket, but I do coin roll hunt frequently, and average about 2 silver dimes per $100 that I search.

Pocket change silver??? Very rare. I might find a silver dime once every 5 years. I can only remember finding a silver quarter once in the last 25 years.
