Will they include the "S" Quarters ??

I don't believe they have released that info yet. If I was a betting man I'd say yes. With all the S quarters on the schedule for '13 there is no excuse for them to be left out.

Except for the cupidity of the Mint.

I think the mint has to await direction from congress...and there's already too many esses in congress.
Markets (governments) can remain irrational longer than an investor can remain solvent.
  • I say no--the 2013 set is listed at the same price as the 2012 ($27.95), which didn't include them.

I agree. They've already suggested they wouldn't appear in mint sets.

They might not even have the capacity to strike mint set quality quarters at San Francisco.

Good point! Maybe Cladking can answer this question..........Have we ever had 2 years of circulation quality coins not in the Mint sets like these quarters? I don't recall that ever happening.

Congress has no control on what gets included or excluded from US Mint Sets as this authority is at the discretion of the US Mint Director by authority of the Secretary if the Treasury.

As a side note, the US Mint is not even required by law to manufacture Proof Sets., Mint Sets, S Mint Quarters or any other "collectible coins". The only thing Congress has a say in, with regard to public law, is the issuance of Commemorative Coins, Bullion Eagle Coins (Gold and Silver), and the 5 oz ATB Silver Bullion Coins. There may be others but certainly not Proof or Mint Sets.

From past discussions and Coin World Articles, the S-Mint ATB quarters will NOT be included in any US Mint Sets.

    That's not true:

The Secretary shall annually sell to the public, directly and by mail, sets of uncirculated and proof coins minted under paragraphs (1) through (6) of section 5112 (a) of this title, and shall solicit such sales through the use of the customer list of the United States Mint.

    from 31 USC § 5132(a)(1)

Silver Proof sets are covered in (a)(2)

The S quarters will not be part of the Mint Sets, however, just like in 2012 can be purchased in rolls or bags directly from the Mint. The Mint does not consider them uncirculated coins but business strikes.

Same here, and it may be because they are not intended to be released directly into circulation. image

Maybe not the mint sets, but my sources tell me that the "S" quarters will be available in the 2013 proof sets.

Quite true, and the same applies to the dollar coins now, as well! image
